Zero Crossing Points and Snapping

Considering buying Sound Forge Pro 3 for Mac.

Currently exploring your trial version: trial_sound_forge_pro_mac_3--phFpxNTeAGZz9viJRe.pkg

I'm using it on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010):

  • OSX 10.10.5 (Yosemite)
  • 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 16GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB.

I've read the areas in your Help section regards this, but still I cannot get the Zero Crossing Snap to work properly.

My settings are as follows:

  • Options/Snapping/Enable
  • Options/Snapping/Zero Crossings

Both of which I have ticked. I have all other snapping options unticked.

However, when I am selecting an area within my audio file, it is clearly not snapping to zero crossings. When zooming in I can see it is snapping to the small square boxes on the waveform.

If I use: Edit/Selection/Snap to Next Zero, once again it is not snapping to the zero crossing points of the waveform.

Please see my attached video:

What is happening here please? Can you help?

@Tiggz-Calhoon

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Since these are user to user forums, and there don't appear to be many users of SF MAC there may not be anyone who posts here who can help you, sorry. You should perhaps try the Support link in the header of any forum page to contact Magix directly.

I notice you are running an "older" version of OSX, which will run the app. You need to be aware that if you upgrade your OS to Catalina, the app will not work. This pinned post will tell you a little more.

Thanks Jeff, so I contacted Magix directly. Unfortunately they were unable to help as by their own admission, their software, Sound Forge, doesn't work on Mac, that's any Mac..!!

Incase others have this issue, here's Magix response to my query above:

""Greetings from Sound Forge Support,
Thank you for your message.  Unfortunately, there are many issues with the Mac versions of Sound Forge.  Due to changes in the various Mac operating systems, they have become highly unstable, and at this time the entire Mac line is being put on hold as decisions are being made regarding the Mac version's future.  Most Mac users now are using the PC version on their Mac via the Parallels app  (this is what I do at my home computer, and it works great), but unfortunately, the Mac versions themselves are becoming unusable and it will be quite some time if/when a newer version is developed.  I apologize for the inconvenience of that, and we thank you for your time and understanding.  Please be safe and healthy out there, and have a great day!""

So there you have it. It just doesn't work on Macs. I wouldn't have even wasted my time looking at the demo, playing with it for an hour or two, or writing these forum posts and emails if they didn't advertise it for sale on their website for $299, which they still are doing: https://www.magix.com/us/music/sound-forge/sound-forge-pro-mac/

What a bunch of mugs, if it don't work Magix, get it off your site and stop wasting peoples time.
