"Your computer us too old"

Karl-Sanfer wrote on 10/10/2021, 2:01 PM

Video saver 8th edition. It says the product need 2 ghz processor and 4 gb RAM. I have the double on my computer, and I "saved" 4 tapes but on the 5th it records it works for like 1 minute, then a warning says my computer is to old to make a good video and I should lower the recording quality. It does not help. The sound is late and the frames moves to fast. The former tapes doesnt work now either. I tried uninstall and install, It doesnt help. Ive tried different usb ports on my computer, It does not help. Windows 10.

Hi Karl and welcome to the user to user forums.

Unfortunately Windows 10 is an evolving operating system and one of its updates is probably the cause of the program no longer responding as it once did. Upgrading the product will only make matters worse as the newer software demands even newer computer components. You could try rolling back to a previous version of Windows ten where the program last worked to see if that helps.

Alternatively you can right click the startup icon and scroll down to 'troubleshoot compatibility' and see if you can get it to run emulating an earlier operating system but that seldom works.

Since your version came out in 2015 there have been two new versions. Your version was Windows 7 compatible which none of the new versions have been and possibly why there are now problems running it under Windows 10. Windows 8.1 would be the last fully compatible operating system for it.

As a user (there are no magix staff on the forums) I may be wrong and another user may have alternative options for you.

Ray.

Hi

. . . . then a warning says my computer is to old to make a good video and I should lower the recording quality. It does not help. The sound is late and the frames moves to fast. . . . .

The important part of the message is the need to reduce the quality of recording, the too old computer is a bit of 'red herring'.

If you are recording at a resolution higher than 720 x 576 (PAL) or 720 x 480 (NTSC), then you are not gaining anything VHS recordings are approx equivalent to 335×576 pixels (PAL) or 333 x 480 (NTSC) - a significantly power resolution than DVD. Upscaling is best left to the TV the recording is being viewed on.

Another possible cause is the 5th tape recording is suffering from dropped frames, this could be due to:

  1. Tape player heads are dirty, possibly due to tape deterioration causing it to shed its coating.
  2. Tape deterioration in the magnetic field strength of the recording.
  3. Tracking errors due to 1 or 2 above
