While trying to activate Movie Editor Pro Plus I got this error:

System error 15 - You have deactivated cookies.

You must activate cookies in your browser to be able to use the MAGIX Service Center.

I am using Windows 10 with Microsoft Edge. I went into settings in Edge and allowed cookies and still got the error.

The email and activation code are correct in the activation screen because both had green check marks after them.

My system is connected to the net. what can I do to correct this problem?

Hi

AFAIK Movie Edit Pro uses the Internet Explorer 'engine' to communicate with the Internet.

You should have Internet Explorer 11 installed on Windows 10, it is IEs settings that you need to change, not Edge which uses a different 'engine' - see this article for more information.

Hi

. . . . I enabled Internet explorer and got MSN when I ran it. Are they using the same engine? . . . .

MSN is the default home page for IE when installed.

The engine for IE is part of Windows.

. . . . Movie Editor Pro Plus  . . . .

What is the version number as found under Help, About?

I am having the same problem with Acid Music Studio. This is interfering with my workflow, and I may seek reimbursement if it isn't dealt with promptly. Magix tech support seems to be non-existent. They assign customers to their tech support function, which is unprofessional at best. Customers can support one another, but not with resolving software issues that are defined by management.

It is easy enough to write a standalone module that communicates with a server without having to rely on an assumption that another module is present. The issue is being reported as having something to do with COOKIES. That is the problem. Cookies are local storage. How difficult could it be to store customer specific preferences along with the program itself?

Seems like just another way to subvert a privacy policy at the cost of customer productivity. Seriously, Magix should consider using another licensing/activation method. Cookies shouldn't be absolutely necessary to activate a program that is intended to enhance productivity.

For the record, Microsoft Edge IS the default browser for Windows 10. IE has been deprecated.

Does anyone have an answer to the problem with activation? On my other licensed copy, I was able to use it after getting the same message by closing the program and reopening it.

Are cookies enabled in internet explorer?

Start > run "inetcpl.cpl".

Under the privacy tab, click Advanced.

There is nothing for Magix to deal with, since the original post, 11 months ago, changes have resulted in the IE engine being no longer relevant.

Correct, however it still has to use the Internet settings in order to communicate with the Internet.

The Internet settings are a core part of Windows, ideally they should not have been directly associated as being Internet Explorer settings - they are independant of Internet Explorer engine which is no longer needed by the program, so it is irrelevant what the default browser is.

The Internet Settings manage the eg HTTP protocols, security settings etc of your computer.

Ensure that all the HTTP and SSL/TLS protocols are turned on

Hello, John

"Correct (Edge is the default browser for Windows 10 ...), however it still has to use the Internet settings in order to communicate with the Internet."

Not true. It is totally possible to establish communications using internet protocols without using any OS functionality other than opening and closing ports. Using a software layer is a lazy man's (hacker's) way to do something that should be finessed.

I would pay for finesse, but expect hackers to not expect substantial compensation. After all, we're only talking about the productivity of customers. Software is designed to enhance productivity, not subtract from it.

"The Internet Settings manage the eg HTTP protocols, security settings etc of your computer."

The internet settings are browser specific, and as I should have stated, one of the messages I received when the software failed to successfully connect to the server mentioned that cookies were disabled. That is hogwash.

"Ensure that all the HTTP and SSL/TLS protocols are turned on"

Take a wild guess whether I changed any of that after initially setting up the program and activating it. As I stated before, the problem is with the "continual activation mechanism" built into the application. I will repost the original message to clarify:

"System error 15 - You have deactivated cookies.
You must activate cookies in your browser to be able to use the MAGIX Service Center."

Cookies are not deactivated in my default browser, and I shouldn't need cookies to be activated in order to do my creative work. The software is obviously having a problem that has nothing to do with cookies, or it is malware, designed to wedge the customer into making alternative decisions, like an upgrade, or use a different company's product. Either way, it doesn't make sense for the customer, and is a sure way for Magix to lose revenue.

After checking, I found 2 cookies from Magix.info, and 1 from Magix.net, and you're telling me the problem is with HTTP or encryption. Where is Magix tech support?

@Levon-McLain

Magix Tech Support is via a ticket system. Go to this page to create one. Always make sure you click on "Ask Support" if offered that option.

You have a perfect right to disagree with what you are told by an extremely experienced user of Magix software but please remember that politeness to other posters is an absolute requirement of anyone posting to the forums.
