X5 Pro Suite Install Fails on Windows 10 Pro x64

Alienware M51.
i9-9900k
64gb RAM
nvidia 2070
1tb raid 0 ssd
Windows 10 Pro x64

Brand new machine. Just unboxed it.

I was able to take advantage of an upgrade offer as a former X4, X3 licensee.
I purchased the Pro X5 Suite online and downloaded the installer to my \downloads folder.

File Name: samplitudeprox5suite_int_dlm_dw7td.exe
Size: 6,001 kb

I ran the .exe file.
It runs an install loader and then apparently quits.
No other screens or options are presented.
I tried this three times.

I re-booted.

I ran the .exe file again using Administrator privileges, and it started the loader and quit. Same result.

I ran the application in 'compatibility mode' with Windows 7 and Administrative privileges. Started the loader and quit. Same result as before.

Assumptions

1. This is the full product installer
2. I do not require the X4 product to be installed on this machine in order to upgrade. My last

Resolution steps

1. Converted primary user account from a microsoft online services authentication to a standard local user account. As-is account is already part of local administrator group, as is new account when it's converted)

2. Run the installer as Administrator (right click, select) and it installed perfectly.

In a nutshell, when you go through the initial unboxing and OS setup for this machine, it has a new setup process that is mainlined as an online registration and integration with Microsoft services. Therefore, you're really *encouraged* to use a Microsoft-enabled email address as your primary login. The user name the you create is using these credentials to authenticate against your machine.

It used to be that you just typed in Dave (or whatever name you wanted), and it created a local user account and put it in the Local Administrator group for the machine. This change means that you're no longer using explicit OS-level security, anmd my suspicion is that it creates a unique type of local user account that is treated differently by default. It may be part of the local admin group, but there's something that prevented that profile from installing this software. When I changed the account type to a pure local user account (essentially downgrading, in Microsoft's eyes), all of my problems were resolved.

You are 'highly' encouraged (some might even say tricked) into using or creating or authenticating with an email address tied to a Microsoft online account.

The normal login process (local machine) that we were all used to is now referred to as 'Hello Windows'. This is 'downgrade option' of the typical local user account.

Hope this helps someone else.

Hi Christopher,

I'm also on W10 with a new computer wich is on 10. I just passed from 7 to 10.

I just bought prox5 suite, + sound forge + Acid pro, and bought Prox4 & Pro X years ago

I have had absolutely no problems with all these great aps on W7 !

But now:

I recieved by email an activation code from magix for Spectral layers ?

just before this email, I have been prompt when I tried to open prox5 of an update, waited the download etc...

But I have this pop up on my machine and the update is blocked & doesn't progress.

( snapshot joined ).

I have perhaps desactivate the magix update program by error... How can I fix this ?

Thank you

You did not de activate the program . I had the same issue with the last update. It took several tries to get the update installed. Install kept hanging. Seems there are still a lot of bugs in Version 5. Try right clicking and opening Samplitude as an administrator. I also rebooted the computer. I also received an E-mail for Spectral layers upgrade with no Download link.
