Writing DIRECTLY to MIDI

Mr.C wrote on 12/27/2014, 3:53 PM

Can you write onto the MIDI Editor just using your mouse?

OK.  Complete and utter beginner.

Using Samplitude 2014:

1.  Start a new project.

2.  Track 1 I want to write my own music into the track using the midi editor.

3.  I want the instrument to be an accoustic guitar

4.  How do you do it as when I try to select an instrument and go to the midi editor it is blank and I cannot write any notes?

Pro Tools SE is childs play compared to this program.

Hi,

Select an instrument for track 1. Make sure the track is set for midi. Click on track 1. In the top menu, select Object, New midi object, and select 8 bar (empty) or use a range. An empty midi object is not on track 1. Double-click on it to open the midi editor. In the menu icons above the midi editor, there is a pop down beside button to the right of the Combi-tool selection button. Open it and select Draw pencil. Now you can draw all over your midi object keyboard to place notes. You can stretch the object length in the arranger if your midi object needs to be longer.

I suggest that you read the section about midi in the manual.

Hi Neil,

Pages 37-43 in the manual will give you a good start. Then read the chapter starting on page 164. Just to understand the mouse modes, skip to pages 177-181. This part is really important and will save you a lot of time and frustration when you start drawing and editing notes on the piano roll.

I have this sorted now.  I think.....  I'll read the sections of the manual you suggested.  Many thanks.
