Widescreen video from 'squeezed' in 4x3 .MOD file

I have a HDD camcorder that has the option to record in widescreen and the old 4x3 TV.  When I set it to widescreen and record, the resulting recorded files produced are still displayed in the editor in 4x3.  When I burn the movie to widescreen it still has black bands and the people are shown as tall and thin.  I have Magix Movie edit Pro 14.  How can I expand the display during editing to show widescreen?

Many thanks.  I tried it and it worked by right clicking on the clip in timeline mode, selecting image size and position; changing width to 720 and dragging the image to fill the window.

I don't have this (rather old) version so I don't know if it works there, but in version 17 you can go to the properties of a video clip after right-clicking it in timeline mode and there you can set the aspect ratio to whatever value you wish. here's a screenshot of it (in German but the locations should be identical in the English version):

EDIT: I don't know why it's not displaying the second picture, it's just the window that pops up when you click on "Properties" in the first picture

EDIT2: Of course now it does show up...
