Why doesn't Movie Edit Pro 12 install on my Vista laptop?

My laptop is an HP/Compaq 6715b with 2 gigs of memory.  When I install Edit Pro 12 from the original DVD  disk the computer freezes up so badly I can't even use Ctrl/Alt/Del to get out of it.  This laptop is one of those weird machines that has no off switch and I had to pull the battery out of it to shut down.  I looked for a patch but so far I have not found one.  Maybe I am looking for it in the wrong place.

Sincerely,

John Beck, film theorist

Hi,

I was able to dig up the specs for MEP 12 on the web.  Please note that MEP 12 will not work on the 64-Bit version of Vista.  Vista was also notoriously bad at editing video, was more unstable than XP, and is 2 versions behind the current microsoft OS.  MEP 12 is many versions behind the current one.  The two digit versions stopped at 18 and the current one is MEP 2013.  2 GB of RAM is really only sufficient for the most basic editing.  I am running 6 GB on Windows 7 64-bit on a quad core processor and the is not really enough.  If you really want to edit video, do yourself a big favor and upgrade your system and upgrade the software.

Just so you know, here are the system requirements for MEP 12:

XP and Vista Compatible on 32-Bit Systems only
Please take note about Vista Compatibility.  Vista Compatibility on this product is limited to 32-BIT Versions of Vista only, to tell what version of Vista you are running, you can right click on the "Computer" or "My Computer" Icon and go to properties.  It will say 32-Bit Operating System or 64-Bit Operating System under System and System Type.  If you have a 64-Bit System, this product will not work at all.

Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista
Intel Pentium processor, AMD Athlon processor
    500MB Hard Drive Space
    4MB 16-bit SVGA 1024 x 768 video card
    16-bit sound card
    DVD-ROM Drive
Optional: HD video requires 2GHz processor and 1GB RAM, Dolby Pro Logic surround sound requires compatible decoder/receiver

Good Luck,

George
