Why doesn't Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 plus program start up?

phillip-assenmacher wrote on 5/1/2012, 4:37 PM
  • Program won't start
  • Every time I run it, while loading the media pool.
  • intel i7 2600CPU /dual 3.4GHz/3.4GHz /8GB RAM/64bit os
  • Windows 7 Professional OS
  • Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus

Last week Magix Movie edit Pro 17 plus, refused to start. It loads up to Initializing media pool then causes a c++ runtime error of abnormal termination.

This happened after recieving a notice to check for updates to the software. I dont recall if I downloaded any.

I unistalled ALL the Magix software programs, Checked the computer for viruses, Spyware and malware, found none.

Download the installation program again, unpacked it and ran it. It installed. I click the desktop icon. It crashes, I went into the start menu / All Programs/ Magix/ Movie Edit Pro 17/ clicked on that icon. It crashed. Went to c:/programfiles(x86)/MAGIX/Movie_Edit_Pro_17_Plus_Download_Version/ clicked on the Videodeluxe Application, and that crashes all in the same place.

I am not sure why... it still runs on my system.

Sounds to me like there is something on your system that is in conflict with the Movie Edit Pro... have you installed anything new since the time it worked and where it doesn't now?

You mentioned a patch... was there any errors when that was downloaded (if it downloaded anything?).

You might need to contact support, unfortunately some things like that will be to much for a community like this to have much of an answer. You have already done what I would have suggested, which is uninstall then re-install.

If that is not doing it, then I would think that you need to remove all things that are Magix.. I think on their support website is a download for a cleaner that removes files that you might not usually find. I would run that and then once it is complete, you can then reinstall the Movie Edit Pro and see if it works again.

Best result would be to contact support.

Hi

As a first step - close MEP.

Using Windows Explorer search your c: drive for videodeluxe.ini (you will need to include hidden and system folders in the search options).  You may find several of them - the one you are looking for is the largest in size - delete this videodeluxe.ini file, then start MEP - hopefully this will cure the problem.

If not then:

Download the Magix Cleaner tool available here http://support2.magix.com/customer/en/download/tools - you will need to login.

Un-install MEP, then run the Magix Cleaner.

Reboot your computer and then re-install MEP again - tip install for All Users when asked.

The Uninstall / re-install may not clear the problem because , as with many installers, when you un-install, software remnants are left behind which need removing which the cleaner tool does.

Microsoft runtime C++ error Abnormal Termination, this is not a microsoft problem. I did something unexpected and found something interesting. I un intalled ALL versions of Microsoft Runtime and executed Movie Editor pro 17 plus. Low and behold I got the same error.

Question, How can I get an error when Microsoft runtime C++ it isn't even installed?? Something doesn't add up...

If I am correct Videodeluxe.exe should be giving me an error code that Miscrosoft Runtime is not installed.

This is not the case, at this point videodeluxe.exe has no clue that Microsoft Runtime is or is not installed on my computer.

This is clearly a problem with the program videodeluxe.exe itself. As of Dec 11, 2012 , I downloaded the lastest patch and it all seems to be holding together. It seems that Magix has resolved this issue, so thankyou magix for the update.

Hi

Taking your points in order -

1.  It is not necessarily a MEP problem - the C++  runtime is a redistributable file from Microsoft that is included in software written using Visual C++ .

2.  Unless you physically removed all the runtime libraries and uninstalled all other software which installs/uses the runtime libraries - it did not actually uninstall - I suspect only the independant installations of C++ runtime were removed.

3.  When you re updated MEP with the patch, I think it put the correct  C++ runtime back.

The most likely cause of the problem was an incomplete or corrupted update to Windows or other software was installed which misbehaved with the C++ runtime libraries, or a registry corruption occured.

The most important thing is you are up and running again.
