Why does Movie Edit Pro Mx Plus keeps crashing?

mschoenb wrote on 6/12/2013, 10:14 AM

I am editing using Movie Edit Pro MX Plus. I have been working on this short film for over 3 months now and have put a considerable amount of work into it. Everytime I try to export the movie it crashes and only 19:28 is exported of the 30:00 movie. Now, the film is edited on almost 25 tracks because there is some extensive editing, but is that too much for the system to handle? Is there something that I'm not doing right when exporting? Everytime I export, and I have done it over 15 times, it only makes the video 19:28.

Export Settings:

Presets: User defined

On Other: Nothing is selected

This includes: Export Selected Range Only

Apply Anti-interlace filter

Calculate Video Effects on GPU

On General Settings: Smart Render is checked.

Is there something I should click and enable or any steps that I should take to fix this?

Hi,

You really have not provided enough information for anyone to give you very concrete advice.  You really need to provide your coputer specs such as OS and Version, CPU specs, GPU specs, and most important RAM.  While 30 minutes may not seem like a long video, 25 track are a lot of tracks for your system to keep track of especially if they are effects, complex title, etc.

Remember, every time you make an edit, add an effect or title, etc the way a non destructive editing app works means the system must go to the source file during the rendering and export proces to ensure that the edits created are actually included in the output.

Since you are able to obtain almost 19 and a half minutes of a 20 minute project, I would turn rendering off completely and see if that frees up enough processing time so the app does not timeout and crash.

ps. Also shut down any other applications that are running during the export to free both ram and CPU & GPU loading.

I'm using Windows 7

50 GB free of 455 GB.

I am assuming that by 50 GB free you mean disc not RAM since you are at almost 90% of your disc capacity you may want to consider moving some of your files to offline storage or deleting stuff that you no longer need.

How much RAM or Memory do you have on your system? What CPU do you have ie. Intel single core dual core or quad core, or AMD single dual or quad.  Have you set up swap space on your hard disc?  If so how much?  How old is the comuter and what make is it?

This type of information is really important.

by the way if you did check smart rendering you need to make sure that you have a nvidia chip set installed as your GPU

Hi

"This includes: Export Selected Range Only" - If you have this selected then it will only export the part of the project that is defined by the blue "Range" indicator line on the top of the timeline. Make sure this covers the full length of the project or area you wish to export - or, untick this option in the export window.

Smart Rendering (which has nothing to do with the GPU, George) is known to cause problems at times when exporting so try without this selected.

Otherwise, check the project at 19.28 and see if there is a transition or effect at this point and try modifying or removing it and see if that helps.

@Scenestealer, how can you say that rendering be it smart or otherwise has nothing to do with the the GPU.  "Smart Rendering" only works with Nvidea GPUs, and any "rendering" taxes both the GPU and CPU.  You have no idea what GPU or CPU this user has so how could you possibly make that comment?

George

You are confusing Hardware acceleration ie GPU rendering with Smart rendering. Smart rendering is the program deciding to not render a clip during export because it is not modified from the original clip. So the GPU or CPU does not come in to play and the clip is copied unaltered in the export.

If the clip had an effect placed on it then the GPU would come in to play during the render and accelerate the render process if the box you indicate was ticked, otherwise the CPU would do the rendering. In either case smart rendering would be disabled by the program for that clip.

Hi

Just to add more confusion ???

I have found if you have the GPU option as shown in George's image turned on AND have the Hardware Acceleration option ...  (Video/Audio tab) turned on, as well, in the program settings - this does make MEP crash.

I never use both together - there appears to be no need; with the option turned on in the programs settings, the GPU is used whether the option in the export dialog is checked or not.

Try unchecking the GPU option in the export dialog if you have it set.
