Why does burning in MEP14 claim multiple DVDs are needed for a 76min video?

I have completed editing a video which is 76minutes long. When I try to burn the a PAL DVD (120mins) with highest quality it is defined as 1hr 32 mins long and I then  get a message telling me I need multiple disk as it is 8353/4489 MB. If I set playback time to long playback it says it is 2hr 59 mins the PAL DVD description is lost and is shown as 4328/4489. If I burn on this setting the resultant DVD is only 2.78 GB long. After a few vey minor edits with re-encoding it became even shorter at 2.12 GB!

I tried setting PAL DVD again so the length was shown as 2 hrs. giving 6732/4489 and choosing Adapt bit rate to avoid the multiple disk problem. The result was a DVD with only an opening menu with only 47MB recorded.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? Why is it you can buy a standard commercial video DVD with a long movie and extra scenes with no apparent loss of quality?

Sorry for the long set of questions. Id be very grateful for some help as I want to get the best quality out of all the hours spent filming and editing.  Perhaps someone knows of a good article on formats.

It could be that parts of your edit(s) are still ghosting into your project... I have heard of this happening, but I have never experienced it.

My suggestion is to export this out as a MPEG-2 file to your hard-drive then burn it to disc, or once exported, import it into a new project, set up the menu as you want it and burn that to disc?

Since MPEG-2 is the format that the program will burn from, your quality loss is minimal.

Thanks very much for your answer. I have now exported the project as MPEG-2 (6hrs) and imported it back into MEP14. I found that there was about an hour of video of just a repeated single frame from the start of my Video tacked onto the end of the correct video. Once the extra was deleted I was able to record my DVD   pefectly as PAL DVD with no problem. It now occupies about 3.36GB on the DVD.

I remembered later that during my early edits I did get an error message from MEP indicating corrupt data but as it appeared ok I carried on.

Thanks very much for your help.
