Why do other tracks record onto the track I am recording live vocals and instruments?

sweetarts wrote on 11/1/2016, 2:29 PM

I am using Samplitude 2016. I have been recording live input (vocals and instruments) on a track - for example track 1. Alongside other tracks WAV's MIDI etc, bass, drums, the usual stuff. However without any error or warning, now when I open up my virtual project file, and try to record a live track, all of the audio from the other tracks gets recorded as well. It has happened for no reason that I can see. Now I am unable to record live tracks alongside the other tracks that make up my songs. I have tried to restore all settings and also reinstall samplitude but the problem remains. Please help me, I am out of ideas. I have taken a screenshot of the problem but dont know how to provide it here.

Hi,

Here is how to upload an image to a message here.

Somehow you have directed the output to the input. Make sure that the settings for recording are set to the correct input and not the output, like a mic or external sound card.

Hello, thanks for that advice. I wiull check my settings, I assume you mean Samplitudes overall audio settings, not the invidividual track settings? By the way, when I disconnect all my external ahrdware and clck the red record buton, the other tracks still record onto my vocal track.

I canot see where you shpw how o upload an image?

thanks again

The screenshot below shows the two tracks in question, track 2, the lower track records onto track 1 above, my vocal track, even when I have no external hardware connected, it simply records over it

Sorry, I got distracted and forgot to put in the link to the tutorial. I see that you figured out how to do upload an image anyways.

What is your setup for recording? For monitoring while recording? Recording parameters?

Remember, we can't see your screen and don't know what you have done unless you provide the information.

See below for the recording parameters screen.

@keithclinnell

Hi,

More details please, including which program and version. Also, answer the same questions.

What is your setup for recording? For monitoring while recording? Recording parameters?

Please post screen shots.

I presume that if you are recording vocals that your mic cannot hear the other instruments playing and that you are monitoring with headphones.

@keithclinnell Please check if "Listen to this device" is enabled for your recording device properties in the Windows sound settings. Maybe it helps if you disable that. Additionally, depending on your hardware, you need to disable Loopback audio in your ASIO driver.
