Why do names appear below caption bar

defhomey wrote on 10/27/2010, 12:56 PM

I have Movie Edit Pro 17 and a 2009 Lenovo Laptop with Vista.

In the movie I use Neutral 02 Caption to have the names appear of the people in the video.

All is fine and appear normal as a project. and then as I export movie as a MOV I play it back and see the names are below the bar of the caption.

Any help/info/suggestions to correct this is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

areyou changing the size ratio or resolution during export?

HI John - appreciate you assisting me here.

OK here is what I did (albeit it is also trial and error which may add to my problems, but any advice you suggest will be greatly appreciated.)

Resolution 720 X 480

Frame Rate   50 - picked this to avoid audio delay with vid as people were speaking and sound was not matching up

Aspect ratio 3:2

I have a blog via Wordpress.com and I have purchased space for video storage/upload.

Besides the above mentioned problem I would just like to have the best quality vids to for people to view on my blog and Vimeo/YouTube.

I have a Kodak Zi8 and use my sony minidisc to capture audio for better sound.

Waiting for you words of advice.

Thank you.

I have had a similar issue in the past where I have resized and positioned video over a background (Picture-In-Picture). The project displayed it how I needed it, but when I exported the file, it was offset.

I found the reason for this was that the images/videos I imported were at different ratios than my export. This skewed the final result.

I am not sure that's what is going on with your project. I looked at the caption you used to see what it was about, and noted that it has a bar that appears with text that is on top of that. My theory is that they are at a 4:3 or 16:9 ratio (at least one of them; text or bar) and your final project is 3:2.

I recommend doing minor project to test this. I would take a single image/video and import it, add the caption, then export... see if you get the same result you have been. Try it with a 4:3 ratio.

My cameras are HD, so they are recording at a 16:9 ratio, if I add in anything that is introduced to my project that is not 16:9 will come out skewed.

You said your frame rate is 50 for the audio?

If you are using a external mic (I do as well) then make sure you mic is set to the same sample rate as your camera. I found that mine was set at 48000 Hz when my camera was at 44100 Hz and this offset was not noticable on short takes but anything over a minute you could start to see lip sync issues.

Once I matched those, it was simple. Then learning when I record I first make a sound (clap of my hand) that is recorded by both the camera and the external mic that I could line up those sounds and the rest of the audio would be lined up as well.
