Why do I get a "slowed down" audio track when starting a new movie project?

I have captured AVI video footage 4:3 Aspect ratio. It plays perfectly fine with Windows Media Player. When I drag the same movie into the time line, I get a slowed down sound trck without me doing anything but hitting the PLAY button. Some AVI files, all else being equal result in no sound at all!

I am not a newbie with Magix applications and own several publications. The one I am having difficulty with is Magix Pro 17 Plus and is the first time I experience this kind of problem. I have edited a full movie on the same editor once before with no problems. Same PC and hardware. Using Windows 7 64 bit installation.

I have tied re-naming the source AVI movie and unisntalled and re-installed application twice. Still get the same problem.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Hi.

Does your "slowed down audio" also play at a different pitch, i.e. lower?  The most common cause of audio not playing at the correct pitch is because it was not recorded at the sampling frequency which MEP expects (normally 48 kHz).  So, the first thing to check, using something like the free MediaInfo tool, is what is the sampling frequency of the audio?  Then , make sure MEP is set to the same frequency.

HTH.
