Why Can't I Record Midi Software Instrument?

Just bought MM2016Live and can't get program to record midi using one of the included software synthesizers. Followed directions for loading an instrument, clicked on 'midi rec' for the selected track, clicked on the record button, can hear sounds as I play but arranger displays no notes as I record nor does it playback notes/sounds I recorded.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

System: Lenovo G560, 2gb RAM, 188 gb HD, Intel P6200 CPU (dual core), Windows 7 Premium with SP1

You must click on the tab that says keyboard at the bottom end of the screen you cant miss it, then you choose the synth as it gives the option to do so. Then if you have the midi record set, the keyboard is ready to go and once synth is set all you have to do then is play a note and you will hear the synth of your choosing.

If you follow your order the focus changes to the Synth dialog - to return focus to the keyboard it must be clicked a second time to activate it otherwise nothing will happen.
