Why can MEP15 import Sony Raw files but not Nikon RAW files?

davidbuckingham wrote on 9/11/2016, 6:25 AM

Hi

I have a Sony DSLR camera and the RAW format is .ARW.

Although the RAW files are not visible in the Import preference box I can still drag and drop them into Magix MEP15 Timeline from another screen.

However when I try to do the same with a Nikon RAW file .NEF a message appears saying unsuported format.

I do not understand why.

Hi

Do you mean MEP 2015 - if so then please use its fullname.

. . . . I can still drag and drop them into Magix MEP15 Timeline . . . .

This would suggest you have the Sony ARW file viewer / converter installed on your computer.

MEP does not support any RAW files natively, however it may be using the Sony viewer codec.

Hi John

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry for not mentioning I am using MEP 15 but merely trying to get a general response as my friend has the latest version and it is the same for him.

When you said you can still drag and drop into MEP15 Timeline does that mean you also have a Sony DSLR camera as well?

And yes I have the Sony ARW file converter on my PC so possably using the codec somehow.

No, I have 2 Sony video cameras, my DSLR is a Canon and for most shots I do not shoot in RAW.

The italicised text  is me quoting your comment as above.

You did mention MEP 15, however that version is old (released 2008)and no longer supported and some users abbreviate, wrongly, MEP 2015 to MEP 15.
