Why can I not use this option?

I noticed today that I did not have that option enabled, so I did so.

But when I now export to MP4 (using my otherwise familiar settings) I get the error shown. Any project.

So I assume that I must have disabled it at some time for this very reason. But I'm darned if I can find any discussion about it here. Can anyone recall why this option doesn't work in MEP 2014 please? Perhaps it's an XP issue?

Hi Terry

What is your computers processor?

If it is an i5 or i7 then it is likely that MEP is confused over which graphics card to use the internal Intel HD graphics or the NVidia.

There have been several recent topics on this subject recently - however the results of changing NVidia control panel settings are uncertain.

Hi Terry

Experience has shown that this setting can cause problems at export so is better left unticked. If your computer is capable of Hardware acceleration, ie has a suitable Graphics card compatible with HW Accn. via the Mainconcept H264 MPEG4 encoder, then you are better off to activate this in the advanced encoder settings.

Hi John, Peter:

Thanks both.

Peter: I'll avoid that option from now on.

By "...the advanced encoder settings" do you mean Advanced or Advanced > Advanced?

The following show my settings. Even if I use the first level of 'Advanced', MEP still gives the error. As for the second, deeper level of 'Advanced', there only seems one that looks remotely relevant and I haven't a clue how to interpret much less adjust it!

Hi Terry

Yes I meant the second window in your first screenshot but if that doesn't work then click the adjacent Driver Information and see if something appears in the info box at the bottom that mentions CUDA. If not then do not enable anything anywhere that mentions HW acceleration. If it does then try ticking " Use HRD" in the 3rd window. Also try unticking "Calculate Video Effects on GPU" in the first window.

Do not change anything in the second screenshot windows. Might be worth resetting program settings to defaults to reset any changes you may have unwittingly made in the encoder settings. At minimum try with a new unaltered preset in the first window and HW selected in the second.

Have you been able to use HW accelerated export previously?

Peter

Hi Terry

I seem to recall we had a very similar discussion, possibly last year, on this topic and the recommendation from Magix was that you should not tick the use GPU option in the export / burn dialog if you are using HWA in the programs settings.

Hi John,

You're right, John, that combination is definitely verboten here.

Hi Peter,

With HRD enabled I still got the error. (In fact, even after disabling it again, I had to restart MEP 2014 before I could get the successful settings combination to work.)

Thanks anyway. It would have been good to get both the options working together.

I expect to see a slight improvement in MP4 rendering time now, but I'll watch out for downsides from disabling the 'Calculate...' option.
