Why can I not use m4a. format with MAGIX movie edit pro 14 PLUS

When I try to use the format m4a. or m4p. my movie edit pro 14 comes up with a warning, I've tried pretty much all the music I've brought from iTunes. I know that other formats work, becuase I can use the only two wma files I own if I want. Problem is I don't want to use them.

I don't understand why they don't work. A large percentage of people format their music to m4a/m4p and neither are compatable with this product. So why would that be so? It just seems rather inane to me. My question: Is there a way to get movie edit pro 14 PLUS to accept m4a. format? Or is there a certain way I can make the software accept this format?

Hello Wilem,

Unfortunately, at this point, neither of these two proprietary AAC file formats are supported as import formats in Movie Edit Pro. If you check the documentation of MEP you will find the supported audio file formats listed there. It's a variety of different standardized, non-proprietary files that will work (e.g. WAV and MP3). On top of this, please don't forget that the M4P files you purchased from the iTunes store are subject to digital rights management (DRM) regulations with a built-in protection and your licence for these files restricts what you can actually do with them. The conversion into another, non-protected format (which is what would happen when using them as soundtrack in a video editing software) might not really be admissible.

Basically, in order to get your songs into the program, you could convert them to a suitable format, at least where this is possible and admissible.

Maybe we will see M4A support in MEP in the future, but I doubt that the necessary DRM component for M4P files will be implemented, if that is even legally possible and exists in any software outside of iTunes itself. (Personally, I'm not familiar with any legit third-party software that supports the handling of the DRM on M4P files.)
