Why am I getting screeching feedback when I switch to ASIO (Magix Low Latency 2011) driver?

Sorry to repeat the question but wanted to re-do with a more explanatory header.

I am trying to record vocals that aren't out of synce by a fraction with the music.

When I try to use the ASIO option I get a horrible screeching noise.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi

. . . I get a horrible screeching noise . . .

That is called feedback and is usually caused by playing back what is being recorded through speakers which are too close to the mic.

Try using headphones to listen to the audio if this is the case.

Yes, I know it's called feedback.

However, it happens with or with out a mic plugged in and regardless of whether I'm near speakers.

Without this piece of information being given in the original post  the answer I gave was correct - see this post for additional information required plus:-

What sound card/ chipset do you have in your PC?

Is it set to 'Hear what you record'?

Have you tried other settings for the audio in the programs settings?

Which ASIO drivers are you using?
