@John-Berky First I recommend you restart the computer. Do not select Shut down but select Restart.

If you use an external USB audio interface or USB audio devices it could also help to power cycle it (unplug, wait a minute, then plug it back in). Also check if USB energy suspend is disabled in the Windows energy settings and that the performance is set to maximum or balanced (on laptops).

It might also help to install pending Windows updates in case they didnt finish to install.

If this doesnt change anything you could try to reset the program settings under the File menu. Then it should work like a fresh install.

If it still doesn't record correctly there might be some other problem. Maybe driver related or your hardware has problems?

On first glance, the restart seemed to work (!!??) Why would restart be better than a full shutdown?? Also, I would like to reset the program, but in SF 11, there is no program settings in the file menu. I am using and Echo Audio Layla as an interface. Had it for years and has worked fine.

@John-Berky A Windows shutdown doesn't completely reset the Windows kernel so your computer boots up faster the next time you turn it back on. This means any corrupt states get restored as well. So it is recommended to restart the computer from time to time.

If you can't see a reset option in the File menu you can start Sound Forge while holding CTRL and SHIFT until a small window appears that will ask you if you want to reset the program settings.
