which folder do VST synth plugins need to be in...

MMM Premium Question.

which folder do VST synth plugins need to be in so they will appear in the list when I open:

mixer > FX > VST FX > VST Plugins

I tried adding a new VST olugin path in program settings (which doesn't show in the list of paths).

I also tried putting them in the Synth folder in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MAGIX\Music Maker Premium\23\Synth

Is it possible?

I would like to be able to use a VST synth plugin on some wav and soundloop objects, and not just on midi files. I can add the VSTs to the Instruments list ok, but that will only work for midi objects.

Thx :-)

Try putting them in a subfolder under

C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins

Then come back and give us more information, like a specific plugin and how and where you want to use it.

Note that synthesizers do not show up under VST plugins as they are instruments, not effects.

Thanks for tthe reply. I have all the plugins in C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins\MAGIX and they show up in the VST Instruments list.  I was hoping to use the synthesisers on wav files somehow but it seems like that is not possible. I'm a complete newbie at this so there is more than enough to play around with anyway lol.

Hi Julian,

A synthesizer cannot be used on an existing wav file. You need a MIDI file or you play it yourself. A wav file is a recording of something, like someone's voice or instruments, pre-recorded. You cannot play it back through a synthesizer expecting it to magically change into some other instrument. You can use other effects to change the way something sounds. Think of a synthesizer as a piano that instead of sounding like a piano when you play it, sounds like a trumpet. But, you actually have to play the synthesizer.

There is a difference between instruments and effects and you should look up the difference to get a better understanding. The whole topic is vast.

Enjoy!

Thanks John, that has made it understandable to me :-)
