Hi,

No, not at all. The instruments are for midi files. An MP3 file is an audio file. It is a recording of sound, so it is impossible to transform a guitar soumd into a flute.

So if I create a MIDI file, then I can transform the sound?

Hi,

Yes, and you can create midi files in Music Maker. Select the instrument that you want and then record from an external keyboard or the on-screen keyboard, depending on which version that you have. You can change the instrument for the midi file to just about anything - instruments and synthesizers, so long as the note that is played corresponds to a note that the instrument can play. Some instruments only have a limited range on the keyboard, say 2 octaves.

Do you have Music Maker? If not, you can download the trial and try it out. Current version is 2015 and I recommend Premium, not basic.

Does it matter what MIDI program I use and import the file from? I will experiment with both ideas.  I have the 2015 Music Maker Premium. I was use to using Garage Band so I'm getting adjusted to this and your input in much more helpful than what we get provided with. I'm in the process of writing a song for my girl so I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it. Write now I'm writing in Notion and wanted to see the best way to tranfer that into Music Maker.

Hi,

It shouldn't matter which program you use to create the midi file. I am no expert on these. Just watch out for multi-channel midi files, or those with more than 1 instrument.

Music Maker cannot handle music notation, Samplitude Music Studio (SMS) can, but you can't import anything as far as I know. You can create in music notation in SMS, but Notion is much more powerful. I presume that you would have to create a midi file from your composition, save it and import it into Music Maker.

Let us know how you make out and the various steps that you use to make it all work.

I finally did finish my song two days ago. I did have to create a MIDI and upload it. I tried using an MP3 for fun but I ran into problems with it. However, I've learned that when you create a MIDI or MP3, the program doesn't always like the tempo you set it at and you have to mess with it quite a bit to get it to fit with the program. The program will also mess with the MIDI files at times and suddenly change instruments after you already set what you want. It wasn't a bad process at all but a little tricky at times.
