When Recording instruments no sound just blank recording 2017 version

Hi just purchased older version 2017 premium installation seems fine down loaded extras all good . Everything is working as should be but when I try to record any of the instruments I am left with a recording that has nothing in it.I can edit this blank recording with the editor (add notes) and it plays what I have added . The instruments intristic tracks play, all the loops I have tried play as well.

This is the first time with a sound editor and I am a complete novice so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

I presume that you have selected an instrument, and armed the track so that it shows MIDI Rec.

How are you playing? The keyboard that is at the bottom of an instrument screen is just for testing, you can't record using it. You have to use the built-in keyboard or an external MIDI keyboard which is selected for MIDI input in the Project settings.

Also, in Project Settings, under the Audio/Midi tab, select WASPI driver. Getting a proper setup for recording and playback is somewhat difficult.
