When importing .mov file is jittery - how can I fix it to play smoothly?

taffim wrote on 3/24/2016, 12:28 PM

When importing a .mov (1080p @ 30fps) in Magix Movie Edit Pro 2014 the file playback is jittery and not smooth.  When the .mov is played via QuckTime player, it plays smoothly and as expected.  However, once imported, it becomes jittery.

I've imported several different ways and at different rates, but still jittery.

Anything to help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

This is a common issue with HD video, we need more information:

Computer specification - be specific - processor type/model, amount of memoery (RAM), Graphics card/chipset used, hard drives present and free space etc.

Do you have GPU acceleration  for transitions turned on in the programs settings (P key) ?

Are you using Proxy files - in the Projects settings (E key) ?

Do you have the monitor settings set as shown below ?

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply.  I'm using an Intel Q6600 Quad-Core 2.4Ghz, Nvidia 460 Graphics, 6Gigs Mem and SSD drives with 40Gigs free.

Also, GPU acceleration is checked.  Proxy files is unchecked.  And reduced resolution is checked.

Hi

Thanks for the specs.

With the Q6600 processor and 6GB of RAM the computer is going to struggle with smooth playback of HD video in the preview monitor.

The SSD free space is also on the low side.

Unfortunately you are caught in a Catch 22 situation - using Proxy files will improve the playback performance to some extent, however your free disk space is going to be used up relatively quickly.

Also when a non accelerated transition between clips is encountered playback will struggle to keep up due to the amount of processing that must be done by the Q6600.

Choppy playback in the Preview monitor does not equate to choppy playback of an exported project to eg mp4.
