Do I need editing hardware such as Matrox card (RTX2 or similar), more memory, more cpu, mobo change?

Herewith my current spec:

Mobo: MSI 945P Neo3
GPU: Nvidia (MSI) NX7300GS
Mem: 3 Go
CPU: Intel Dual Core 2.8 Ghz
OS: Win XP
Disk 1 (system): Western 300 Go
Disk 2 (library): Samsung 1 To

Thanks in advance for your advice and comments.

Well....I'd like to help. But you gave absolutely no information about WHAT actually has to be faster.

magix.info?
A Magix software product? Which one? Video deluxe? Music Maker? Which version?

And when is your product especially slow?

Encoding? I'm not a pro here, but I guess that more RAM may help here...besides, 3 GB are a lot....

On the other hand, encoding is a process which actually takes pretty long. That's normal.

Hi,

First of all: you don't need any highly specialized and professional video editing hardware. I assume you're referring to standard DVD (i.e. MPEG-2) encoding. In this case, 4.5 hours of encoding for 2 hours of movie does seem a little long, seeing as how you seem to have a system of decent specs. I know the program can do a lot better than that, but encoding time also depends a lot on your source material and the characteristics of your your project, especially if you're using a lot of complex edits or if you apply effects that will force the program to re-encode every little bit of the source material again. If will be a lot faster if you can benefit from smart rendering in any way.

I'm not sure whether switching to a decent quad core CPU would help you much. I know that the Magix program makes good use of it for some activities and use cases (e.g. decoding in the timeline and MPEG-4 HD editing), but I can't say you'll benefit much for simple MPEG-2/DVD encoding. I might do a little encoding performance comparison sometime and let you know what I find out.
