MEP can create Ken Burns effects very well. Learning how to do it in early versions, (MEP11 onwards) took me a long time!
I'd start by reading up on using KFA (Key Frame Animation). For Ken Burns you'd apply KFA mainly via the Effects > Video Effects > Movement > Size/Position dialog. It's covered in somewhat scattered fashion in the Help and PDF Manual but there's no step-by-step tutorial or progressive examples - a long-standing criticism I have about Magix documentation.
You'll probably learn more thoroughly by experimenting and trial/error. But, recalling how impatient and exasperated I got when I was learning, I'll knock up a short MEP17 tutorial later today and post it on YouTube.
Here's the tutorial I promised. (Took a lot longer than I'd hoped!)
The magix.info bug I reported weeks ago still hasn;t been fixed, so those links look ugly - but they work. Click either one to get the video in HD (choose 1080 if that's not selected automatically).
Fantastic work thanks! I shall give it a go when I get home. I have version 16 but I assume most of the things are fairly similar. I'm quite new to some of the terminology like "key frames" so I need to do a bit of background reading. Anyway thanks again!
Having tried to follow the tutorial I seem to have got a bit confused with the steps and can't seem to duplicate what you've done. It may be because I have a lower version (16) of the software. If you get a chance it would be great to see the steps you took in between the key frames, .i.e. how you got the necessary zoom/pan effects between the key frames. Cheers!

You'll need to be specific about what you did and what went wrong when following the steps I described. Show screenshots if necessary.

Hi Terry
I did finally manage to achieve the effect in your tutorial (thanks) but I had to go about it in a slightly different way, I think due to my version of Magix being older. The following image hopefully shows a difference in the Size/Position dialog box where you'll see there's no zoom control present as there is in yours.
Also I have another problem when trying to create a zoom effect in that when I go to the Section/Zoom dropdown and hit the From Section button, a part of the image is automatically highlighted, and I cannot change the proportions of this section, so that the zoom always starts too far in.... the next image hopefully shows this highlighted section... for some reason i can't enlarge this section beyond a certain size... have you come across this problem before?
In MEP16, within Size/Position, you zoom by either:
1. Dragging the handles in the usual way (which is what I often do in MEP17, out of inherited habit), or
2. By switching to Percentage and entering the value required. In the following screenshot I've entered 200% and am about to drag the duly changed section to a central position:
Turning to your new problem. Are you using Section/Zoom for a particular reason? I'd recommend you master Size/Position first. As you saw, I didn't need to crop to a section at any point in my tutorial. But Section/Zoom also has various design flaws (which I reported over many months at the time but, characteristically, they were never fixed.)
But I'll make a few basic points anyway. The default section for From section is deliberately smaller than full size. However you should be able to drag the handles so that it becomes full width or full height, even though you cannot then zoom! Have you hovered over various buttons and also experimented with the drop-down lists, such as this one?
Also, while learning, frequently use the Reset top right and start over.
BTW, note that I avoid embedded images in posts for anything that requires clarity of detail, because the quality is so poor. I've reported it several times but it remains unfixed. Upload the image instead if you can and use a link, as I've done in this post.
I was using section zoom because mainly it was the slow zooming effect I was after rather than panning and movement as such. However I'm glad you've said it's flawed because I've noticed some baffling behavior with it! Anyway I've found the "Movement template"'s to be quite helpful in getting the effect I want and I think I've figured out a way of using the section/zoom also - thanks for telling me about the reset button that's very helpful as I was keep right-clicking and going through menus to do the same thing!
I shall have a play with the drop down lists as you say but not quite sure what they do as yet. One thing I found that has made life a lot easier is to make sure all my imported images are of a 16:9 ratio, which means editing some of them with black space on the sides - this seems to have made for more consistent and predicable results across the whole movie.
Will take note of what you said about images if I need to upload more. Thanks again for your help - most useful!
