Hi,

What exactly are you trying to do? You basically have Karaoke/instrumental CDs that you want to use as backing tracks, record your vocals on top of them and then fine-tune and mix down everything? Samplitude Music Studio would probably be my product of choice for this task:

You specified Music Maker as your program. Not sure whether you actually already own it. Generally, Music Maker would also suffice. However, Music Studio is just much superior when it comes to audio recording tasks, which is the reason I would have to recommend it over Music Maker. A free trial version of the program is available under the link I posted above.

I hope this helps!

Ralftaro is on the right track here  Cakewalk and Cubase can do a LOT. But the learning curve is where steap - you spend ages without getting anything done. With Samplitude Studio you are right of and producing - and you have most of the sounds you need to get started.

You can always buy more samples and drag and drop them into Samplitude Studio. But looking at price, easiness and the range of use of the product. Samplitude Studio is by far the best for home recording. E.g. with Cubase you often don't get any samples or sounds - so you have to spend money on that too, besides a more expensive programme (in DK it is).
