What is "eco" VSTi..?

Munenushi wrote on 9/25/2016, 1:36 AM

Sorry if this is a very simple question, but I couldn't come across an explanation of this in online searches or in the Manual...

What is an "ECO" VSTi?

It appears to have it's own 'section' in the Plug-in for the Instrument/Synthezier, and it sounds quite different...

Thanks for any information about this

Hi,

When you see ECO, this refers to especially performance-improving settings which may not sound so smooth.

You can find this in the manual somewhere around page 250, under the heading Vita Solo Instruments.

BTW, did you see my reply to the question about MIDI looping?

Ah, thank you!

I did searches in the Manual for "eco" and "eco vst", etc. and browsed around the VST area but for some reason didn't see it...

BTW (Reply):
Yes I did but I didn't want to sound 'conflicting' on someone else's Question, so I didn't post there, sorry...
I didn't know at first either, so I looked through both the Manual and the Menus and eventually found "Object>Edit>Build Loop Object" in Samplitude Music Studio (which comes out as "Edit>Object>Loop Range>Set User Defined Loop" in Music Maker).
I tested it out on a MIDI Object and you can set an end and start point, Cut on them, then choose this option and it 'Loops' it if you Drag out the MIDI Object... at least it did for me. I just purchased my program not very long ago and put an Update on it already - so maybe it was something included in this newer version, or the Update (if you don't see these options in the Menus)?? I'm sorry I'm not sure why, if it doesn't work for you. Hmmm...
Your 'Tip' of saving/copying the original Tracks was a very valuable addition as well - and I didn't want to 'nullify' it somehow by posting again, so I didn't reply there, heh.

Hi Munenushi,

Good find. Works well in Samplitude but I can't get it to work in MMM2017 Premium. Did you try it in MMM?

EDIT: Using MMM, exporting to a MIDI file and then importing it does cause it to loop.

Hi John CB

. . . . I can't get it to work in MMM2017 Premium. Did you try it in MMM? . . .

It does work in MMM 2017.

However for me the method was not obvious at first - this is how I achieved a MIDI loop

  1. With the MIDI object to be looped on the timeline.

  2. Cut the MIDI object to the section you want to loop

  3. Move the range markers to the section to be looped

  4. Select Edit, Object, Loop range, Set user defined loop.

You can now move and extend the looped section and reset the range markers back to the full length of the project.

@John EB,

Using MMM Premium (2017) version 24.0.2.46 (latest version). No can do. Did you create the MIDI object yourself or import one?

Range markers? Other than the yellow bar, are there some other range markers that I don't know about?

While on this topic, I still have those pesky blue markers that don't seem to do anything. Do you still get those?

I also tried jump markers. Nothing shows up until I do a Ctrl+Alt+M (create jump marker sequence). I think that the marker is supposed to show. I can't get the playback marker to jump to a jump marker by using the 1, 2, 3 keys on the top of the keyboard.

Just tried this on a older, cheaper, version, of MM Movie Score Edition. Could not get a MIDI object to loop, but the jump markers work fine. There must be a bug in MMM Premium about jump markers.

Here is the screen shot of Premium (2017) showing the blue markers and the jump markers. Like I said, the jump markers do not show up when created and I cannot jump to them.

Also tried this on my new Surface Pro 4. Same problems.

Hi John CB

Here is an example of how I did it with the default MIDI tune with a synthesizer.

This method also works if the MIDI was created using the Editor, recorded or is a pre-existing MIDI file.

My MMM Premium is at version 24.0.2.46

Here, I made a short Tutorial on how to do it in MMM and I will share it on YouTube, so it will help others, too

Edit:

Hmmm, YouTube Embedding wasn't working, so here's a more Direct Upload, hopefully that will go through... It did, but it was scaled down for the Forum, so I will put the direct YouTube Link just above it....

Edit 2:

Haha, after all that, I see that the knowledgeable John.EB has beat me to a little video helpout  That's ok, at least you'll see a couple different approaches to it. What a great helpful place!

@Munenushi,

We seem to have taken over your thread with this, but it's all to the good.

@Munenushi and John EB,

Thanks for the videos, but it looks like both of you used MIDI loops that were imported somehow and not freshly made by you. As I indicated in my last post, I can export the MIDI object created by me as a MIDI file, and import it. Look at track 2 in my previous post. After importing, I was able to create the loop, but not before. Other MIDI objects, like the ones that come onto the track from instruments (as per John EB's video) loop as well. No problem with these, only with ones made by me (and hopefully you).

See this video in which I show the entire process from creating the MIDI loop to trying to loop it. It doesn't work. Please try creating your own MIDI object from scratch and then looping ti.

I also show the blue markers on the range line and that the jump markers do not show up. I think that these are bugs and would like them confirmed, if possible.

Or for better resolution.

@browj2

Just wanted to confirm your "created MIDI not Looping" - so you know it isn't just you!

I created/recorded a short MIDI and the process of "Trimming then going Set User Defined Loop" didn't work (as you show in your nice video).

Copying the Object, then going to
Edit > Object > Insert Objects Multiple Times
works, but each object is still a 'full object', as you show in your video (they do not maintain any Trim and can be 'expanded' again, by dragging the lower corners of the Object).
Interesting! I will look around as to why this occurs..

I have not had a chance to play with the 'Blue Playback Indicators' yet...

This is all great to figure out and will help others too, so I don't mind if it all gets sorted here, as long as the Moderators don't mind. Have fun with it you guys! I will contribute as I can

Hi John CB

This morning I am getting some very odd inconsistencies with MMM and the looping or self recorded MIDI objects as in your video.

Occasionally it loops correctly however most of the time it is behaving as you have shown in your video.

The only consistent ways I have found to get it to loop is to export the MIDI recording from the MIDI Editor and then reload this into MMM and create the loop as before.

I only get the jump markers showing up when I insert a 'jump marker sequence'.  Looks like a bug.

What are the blue markers for, they do not appear to do anything?  I am sure we had a discussion before about these!

I am relieved to see that I am not the only one with the looping problem.

@John EB,

We discussed the blue markers before about MMM 2016. It seems that the problem is back with this version. The yellow bar also has problems but not all of the time. Double-clicking usually does not extend the yellow bar over the full song as it is supposed to, but brings up the yellow markers or moves the yellow bar somewhere else.

I think that there is still a bug with recording. On the recording screen, selecting Normalize does not work, the recording is not normalized after recording.
