What happened to the playback marker?

me50 wrote on 4/7/2016, 8:42 AM

The red line that moves to the right as I am playing a video has vanished.  This is an extremely helpful tool for editing.  Certainly there must be a simple fix, but I can't find one.  Evidently, others have the same issue, but I haven't read where anyone has been able to resolve it.

I am using Windows 7, Movie Edit Pro 2014 Premium.

Does someone in this forum have a solution?

Hi,

Try a reset, shortcut F9.

Thanks for your reply, John.  I pressed F9 and then played a video.  However, no moving playback marker appeared.  I pressed F9 several more times but it didn't solve the problem.  Do you have any other ideas?

Hi

Do you have any ranges set on the timeline as shown below or two brackets like this  }{      where the blue range is in the image - if so remove the range and the playback marker should reappear.

I thought you had figured it out that time.  I did have one range set (I don't remember setting it though).  This is only my second video and I'm still learning.  However, my first one turned out great.  I didn't have any issues.

Anyway, I had a difficult time removing this single range.  Deleting or cutting it would screw up other settings on my video.  But nothing I did returned the moving playback marker.

I decided to quit the program and start a new project with a new video.  But, there still was no moving playback marker when I played the video.

I may have to go back to the basics (Windows Movie Maker) if I can't resolve this issue.

Hi

Apologies - was not clear when I said delete the range - I should have said remove the range - to remove the blue range marker - double click it.

Try doing a program reset to default settings - File, Settings, Reset program to default.

Note: resetting loses any custom settings you have made.

If that fails, close MEP.

Using WIndows Explorer browse to the folder

C:\Users\XXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2014 Premium

where XXXXXX is your name you log on to the computer with

You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden and system folders.

Delete the file videodeluxe.ini

If the file is not in that folder use Wondows Explorer to search the C: drive - it will find several copies of the file - you need to delete the one with the largest file size - do not delete the smallest ones.

Restart MEP - you should have the timeline cursor back.

1.  Double-clicking is a much easier way to remove the blue range marker.  Thanks!

2. Reset to default settings did not work.

3. I deleted the Videodeluxe.ini file.  I found only one of those.  It was located in C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2014 Premium.

4. None of these procedures corrected the issue of giving back the moving timeline cursor when playing a video.

Well, I don't know what happened for sure.  We had a small wind and snow storm last night which caused the electric to go off.  Since I leave my computer in sleep mode, it turned off as well.  When I opened MEP this morning, the moving timeline editor had reappeared!!!

Thanks John for your time and suggestions.

It's probably a Windows video driver problem, if not a Windows GUI problem itself. Windows sometimes gets "tired" if you leave it on too long and screen elements, like the playback marker, can get forgotten in cache.

Started with MEP 11, then 17, then MX, then MEP 2013, 2015, then 2016. Changed to the fast competitor after that, which worked fine with my non-Intel hardware. Then bought a used Dell with an Intel GPU, just to play with MEP again. Installed MEP 2020 Plus in March 2020, even tho I don't like losing patches if I have to reinstall after a year.

Testing on a Dell Vostro, <s>i3-8100</s> updated to i5-9400 w/ UHD 630, 16 GB 2400 DDR4 (CL15), Win10 Home, heavily NTLite'd. Now with GTX-1650 Super OC'd. Added a WD Blue M.2 for OS (PCIe 3), Apps, Temps and Video-In. 2 Monitors. A WD Blue SSD for outputs. (SATA III.)

I am having the same issue. I have the marker, but it will not move. I have no line showing where I am in the playback. Very frustrating.
