What happened to the L/R split function in 2017?

I have been using ACL 2014 and was happy with it until a recent Windows 10 upgrade broke it. So, I purchased ACL 2017 but can no longer find a feature I use every week. I process a recording where the L/R channels are out-of-balance. In the past, I have bought the WAV into ACL and then right-click to split the L/R channels into 2-WAV files and then worked with the Right channel only. In ACL 2017, I no longer see this option when I right-click? Where did it go and how do I do this function that has been there in every version of ACL I have used, until now?

I have no idea as I don't have ACL, I have AML. The feature may still be there and you might want to review the manual. I presume that you are referring to the right-click command "Split stereo channels" that I see in AML.

As I have indicated many times, the more recent "upgrades" of ACL may actually be downgrades, especially as the detailed user interface of the tools seems to have disappeared in favour of presets and a knob. The real upgrade would be to AML and I suggest that you contact Magix, and get a credit to upgrade to AML. There is a significant difference between the two.

Thank you for the reply. As I mentioned, I didn't want to upgrade since I only process 2-recordings a week and I certainly don't need the additional bells-and-whistles that AML would bring/cost. I have purchased quite a few versions of ACL and, as you have said, seen the interface get worse and worse as they prettify and dumb it down. Why they would remove such a simple feature as "Split stereo channels" is beyond me. I tried to post this question to Technical Support but it said I didn't have any remaining support credits, so I was hoping they pay attention to these forums.

worries me considerably because you are requesting support for a newly-purchased software. Have you registered it with Magix? If so, your access to technical support ought to have been "reset", I think. If you have not yet registered the new software I would strongly recommend you do so and then try again to access Technical Support.

If that fails, and you have only recently purchased ACL 2017, I think you should request a refund of your money if the software does not do what you want.

As to whether technical support staff "pay attention to these forums", generally speaking the answer is no, unfortunately.

I just purchased it a couple of days ago and have not registered it yet.

FWIW, I grabbed an old laptop and with the 2013 edition see the "Split stereo channels" on the main menu under Effects | Stereo/Phase but not in 2017 so they have removed it or buried the functionality somewhere I can't find, due to their redesigning the UI to something they consider "more user friendly".

The function in VSCL is accessed by simply right-clicking on the waveform or via the same menu route you give.

Last version of ACL I purchased was 2014 and it was in there but completely missing from ACL 2017.

Hi,

All I can suggest is that you dump the new ACL in favour of 2014, or go for AML - and ask Magix for a good price, not the full price.

Two recordings per week is a lot, IMHO. If you have to do much processing or need cleaning of certain sudden background noises, then you need spectral cleaning, available only in AML. You might want to download and try out the trial version to see what it can do for you. Also, look careful through the details on the Magix.com site.
