Hi

Check the program settings (Y key) Video/Audio tab that Extract sound from video option is checked.

If it is then use GSpot to analyse one of the files to find out what it actually contains.

The fact that it is OK in Quicktime means it should open correctly in MEP which will use the QT codecs.

Thanks for the answer, John.

I ran qspot and it said the file needed "samr: AMR Narrowband" codec but couldn't tell if it was on my system or not.

I checked the Magix Help and it seemed to indicate that the AMR codec was included in Magix and if needed, would automatically indicate if I needed to activate it or not.  I've looked through all the menu possibilities and also looked at Magix Help and can't seem to find

1) how to determine if a codec is installed

2) how to install a new codec

3) how to activate a codec (i read the section on fee based and free codecs but AMR wasn't mentioned)

Anything you can tell me would be much welcomed

Hi

Thanks for posting back.

I have scanned my computer for the AMR codec files and have found the following files:-

mcamrd.ax
mcamrdec.dll
mcamre.ax
mcamrenc.dll
mc_dec_amr.dll
mc_dec_amr_ds.ax
mc_enc_amr.dll
mc_enc_amr_ds.ax

I have MEP 17, MX and 2013 plus Video Pro X4 installed on my computer - the above files are present for all these except MEP 2013 !

I have put the same video formats through all these versions and never been asked to activate or download the AMR codecs - yet they are definitely missing from MEP 2013.

I will send email to Magix support.

Many thanks John, I opened up my MX version and sure enough it worked !  I've been extremely disappointed with MEP 2013.  It seems to be buggy as heck!  Like Magix released it without thoroughly testing it.  When I add a text box sometimes I have to hunt through the whole movie to find where Magix put it.   sometimes when I hit play it arbitrarily starts back at the beginning etc. etc.  I don't really see any benefits that MEP 2013 has for me over MX......I'll think long and hard before I upgrade again.

rant over.....many thanks for your help !
