What can one do other than re-shoot!

1940 wrote on 8/23/2023, 5:29 PM

Hi,

We had an interview shoot yesterday and it went fine except we evidently shot the guy from his bad side which showed a bit of a bald patch on his head. Not too happy !

He is sitting and his head hardly moves.

Is there a way we can try to add some black to that small bald patch in his al9os black hair?

May overlay?

Don't want to have to re-shoot the whole thing unless we have too.

Thanks

@1940

Hi, which program are you using?

In Magix Movie Studio (MMS) I think the best you're going to be able to do is find a good clear image of the bald spot, Export that frame as single frame png, then using a photo editor work from that png using tools like Clone or Heal to create a toupee on another layer with a transparent surround, feather the edges of the toupee so it blends in better later, export just that toupee layer from the photo editor as png. , then import that toupee png back into MMS so it is on the lower track to your video, right click on that png - 'Attach to picture position in the video', On the preview window draw a box on the bald spot, tracking should start as soon as that is done,

Prob with 2024 no tracking keyframes are created, so adjustment of the toupee layer isn't easy or poss, not sure about that.

You may not be able to do this in one go, you might have to create more than one toupee image & do this tracking a few times on short sections & blend/crossfade the toupee png images along the timeline.

Sorry, it's VPX 10+

Many thanks. That sounds like a plan. I'll give it a shot.

Appreciate it.

@1940 Same in VPX i believe but @browj2 will correct me if I'm wrong & point you in the right direction to a tutorial if you need it 👍

Hi Oz.

A lot will depend on the resolution of the video and the size of his head in the frame but even if half decent resolution wise, I personally think it would be a lot quicker to reshoot it if possible and a lot less hassle.

If you have the means to produce a still transparent png file or Photoshop PSD file with a small patch of his hair it may work as Gid descibes but I think personally it will look odd.

Another idea would be to duplicate the track and use the cookie cutter to select a small portion next the bald spot and then shift that track slightly to one side using the position tool to cover the area. That way at least any movement would be automatically synced. The cookie cutter area can be sized and feathered.

My thoughts too!

Hi Oz,

I agree with the methods proposed. If the speaker's head moves a lot, you will have a lot of work moving the hair patch around. The quality will depend on how obvious it is. A slight blur might help.

The track motion effect (Attach to picture position in video) may work. At least in VPX10, you should have the tracking points that can be adjusted under Size/Position - Pin Object X and Y in the keyframe area. The problem is that many points are created so adjusting them is probably best by turning on the kf lines on the object and adjusting them there.

On getting older: several years ago, sitting in the barber chair, I looked in the mirror and could see the back of my head in the mirror on the wall behind me. After finishing up and turning me around, I saw that the bald spot was actually on the gentleman sitting in the chair behind me. Whew! Two weeks ago, sitting in the barber chair where I now live, I saw the same bald spot. This time, on turning around, there was no one behind me. I'm now contemplating which hat to wear.

Your subject may want to start wearing a hat.

Hi John.

I've been bald since I was 22. Never had any problems with it socially despite all the jokes of not being able to go ten pin bowling in case I get mistaken for a bowling ball or my head is reflecting too much sun and dazzling people or because I have a beard why is my head on upside-down? Since I'm ugly on both sides I have to make do with a sparkling personality. 🤣
