What an ongoing nightmare.

kevin-b8713 wrote on 10/16/2019, 2:55 AM

I think it is time I switched to tjhe Ableton 9 I have had on my PC for over a year now. The latest version of Music Maker )2-18) has been nothing but a nightmare.

Time and again I am being asked to download two loops. '80s Movie Score' and 'A Fantasy Tale' which despite having downloaded again and again, keep reappearing in my 'downloads' window.

As long as there are 'downloads' being offered, Magix Music Maker will not allow me to open saved work, so it is pointless creating new material as it will not save.

I bought this programme for £59.99 about 12 months ago, and in the time since I have added £258.63 worth of Instruments... all of which are now rendered useless.

I have been in constant touch with the makers, but they themselves do not know what the problem is... they suggest that they will pass my concerns onto their 'development team.'

So be warned, if you like to make your own digital music, seek another, better product than anything this company produces.

@kevin-b8713

Do you want help, or are you just here to complain?

I have not seen anyone having a similar problem. I have 7 items pending under Download, and I am able to save, so that is likely not your problem.

There is no version ")2-18)". The latest is 28.0.1.19. You should update to this.

The program is Free! What you pay for if you get Plus or Premium are some instruments, features, presets and Soundpools. It may be more cost effective to just purchase another Premium Edition that gives you coupons for more instruments, etc.

You indicated that you raised a ticket ("I have been in constant touch with the makers, but they themselves do not know what the problem is"). Did they ask you to do the following?

  1. Are you logged in to the Store? You should see your email address at the upper right, above the Media Pool.
  2. Your project may be corrupt. Did you try starting a new project and saving it?
  3. Did you try cleaning up the Store under Program Settings, General options, Clean up Store? If not, do so, restart the program and log in to the Store. This has resolved the repeating Downloads problem that has been mentioned several times in the forum.
  4. If anything is left under Downloads, download and install, restart the program. Anything under Downloads?
  5. We know nothing about your computer or OS. Add this to your signature or profile.

Dear Browj 2…

Thanks for your two-cents-worth.

YES, I am complaining, as is my right under the 12th amendment having spent a small fortune on a product that doesn’t work.

Just because YOU haven’t seen this problem doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

So what if you have seven items pending?

I have had various versions of Music Maker since 2012 so I am surprised that I have encountered so many problems with this issue.

Where I wrote )2-18) was an error on my part. I meant to write (2018) as this was when I purchased it. The version is 28.0.1.19 (You see, I can rectify this mistake, which will become an important point later during this tirade)

ANSWERS

1. Yes, I am logged onto the store

2. Older projects open fine, it is just the projects I have created whilst these two rogue loops continue to pop back into my download tab, despite the fact that I have already downloaded them several times. (and I don’t even use loops)

3. I have reset, cleaned-up, followed the advice given from the several tickets I have created on this matter since it first reared its ugly head back in July 2019.

4. The downloads disappear once I have downloaded them but reappear every time I restart the program. So go figure

5. "We know nothing about your computer or OS." Who are WE??? (Why would it be a computer or OS problem?)

Just for the record, I have attempted all the ‘solutions’ you suggested in the first days that this problem arose… that is the reason I talk to the manufacturers rather than these ‘forums’ which seems to be the preserve of ‘know-it-alls’ that don’t really have the first clue of what the issue is... Simply because they themselves don’t encounter the problem.

What, do you seriously think that I have nothing better to do that create ‘phoney’ issues for a software product that should not be on sale? Especially where the manufacturers use such words as

12th Amendment? Must be an American thing. Like most software, even the US Constitution needed patches.

Did you try uninstalling/reinstalling the program?

It seems that you have a problem that others, like myself, do not or have not encountered. However, I have had the repeating download problem, posted it in the forum, and it was resolved. I indicated that I have pending downloads but am able to save and reload my projects. It is possible that your problem is not related to the repeating download problem.

"We" are users on this forum who may be able to help you if you provide sufficient information. If you are on W7 and everyone else who doesn't have the problem is on W10 patch something or other, if would be good to know. There are users with hardware that may have software or drivers that conflict with MMM. By knowing what you have, have done, etc., "We" don't have to play 20 questions, like with which version you have.

You will notice that I have removed an unnecessary and potentially inflammatory comment and the quotes from Magix - without context and references to what is actually being referred to they are meaningless.

I would advise you to read the Community rules - link at the bottom of the page - in particular rules 1 , 2 and 6.

While we appreciate the frustration that can occur when trying to use software, help us to help you by posting in a meaningful manner, provide requested for information and facts.

I have downloads waiting in the Downloads tab, however they do not stop me opening, creating or saving new or old projects.

Does a popup window open every time you start the program saying you have downloads - if so please provide a screen shot of the screen so we can see what the dialog is.

No one except you is saying the issue is phoney, the problem is your posts contain very little evidence of what you are seeing or you computer specification etc

As @browj2 has commented the issue is somewhat unique to you and has requested details of your computer system - please read this topic and provide your computer specification as detailed in the linked to topic, also include what Antivirus/Firewall software you are using.

My comments were a review of the product. I was not asking for advice or help.

If I want advice or help with regards this programme, then I will contact the people that manufacture the product direct.

If I experience a problem with my car I don't go around the neighbourhood asking others whether they have encountered a similar problem. I go direct to the manufacturer or to the showroom that sold me the car.

I found the post 'response' from browj2 provocative. His comment that "I have not seen anyone having a similar problem. I have 7 items pending under Download, and I am able to save, so that is likely not your problem."

I found this comment to be totally dismissive of the issue and the point I wished to make.

I posted several responses from the manufacturer of the product which were responses to tickets I had created between June 2019 and the present date. (I note that you have deleted those comments which undermine your suggestion that 'this problem is somewhat unique to me.'). Those comments from the manufacturer made it clear that this is NOT an unique problem. In removing these comments from the Technical Team, you have demonstrated that your actions are simply to protect the manufacturer from any negative feedback which in my mind makes your contribution biased and one sided.

As stated previously, I have been using Magix Music Maker products since 2009. (Ten years)

I have never previously experienced the problems that I have encountered with this version. I would suggest that the addition of the 'online shop' is the problem, as the problem is linked to downloads. Free downloads of loops.

I originally raised a ticket with the technical team in June as every time I saved a new project, when I came to open it again, I found a similar message to the one displayed below...

The following project cannot be loaded:

Reason: The Audio-paths to the media file are inconsistent:

MIDI REC (deviation: 2845 samples)

Click on “Continue” to adjust the movie’s paths to the media file. Make sure that the movie is changed by this process. Click “Cancel” to remove the inconsistent paths.

Tip: Check the following possible cause of the problem:

Media files have accidentally been exchanged with identical named files, e.g. by moving or renaming?

Did you make the movie on another system or installed or remove codecs or third-party programs recently?

I noticed that this only happened, if I saved new projects whenever there were 'new loops' pending in the download tab. Projects created before these 'new loops' were presented for download, opened fine... (which would dismiss any suggestion that my computer system or that my computer specification have any baring on this problem). That's what we call a simple process of elimination.

I learned that when I did download and then delete these 'new loops' that the problem of creating and saving new projects was rectified....

However, for the past two months, I have been offered the same two loops continuously. '80s Movie Score' and 'A Fantasy Tale.' If I download the two loops, they immediately reappear in my 'download tab.'

It was only when I entered Magix Projects> Music Maker> ShopManager_mm28> FileCache, that the two loops finally disappeared. However, I now find that whenever I try to create, save and then open any new projects that I am again offered the message

Did you make the movie on another system or installed or remove codecs or third-party programs recently?

and so, on that note I choose not to use this product any further and not to buy any further products from this manufacturer. Of course, as moderator you will delete this message and if you continually delete negative messages about the product then nobody will be any the wiser to the problems that your own technicians have identified as being beyond their understanding.

As stated, this is a review of the product, not a request for help. I will make no further contribution to this 'forum' and so I request that you remove my membership of this forum from your records.

I have waisted 40 minutes writing this message, I do not intend to spend another second on anything to do with Magix Music Maker or related products.
