Webdesigner premium 17 - mobile and main variants overlap on page

Graeme-Summers wrote on 4/22/2020, 4:39 AM

Hi

Re: Xara Web Designer Premium 17.0.0.58775  DL x64 Mar 17 2020

Published output from Webdesigner premium 17 - shows mobile and main variants overlap on the Contact page of my website - see co.creativity.com

This has been working very well until today.

I have widget on the page that references a php form page via an iframe - however even if I delete the widget I get the same problem.

Suggestions for a fix?

Best wishes

Graeme

@Graeme-Summers

Hi Graeme and welcome to the forum.

The link co.creativity.com does not work, if I go to creativity.com there is no contact page only an enquiries link and embedded Youtube video, the enquiries link goes to a very basic form - is this the correct site and form you are referring to?

I do not see any mobile/main variants overlap nor in the HTML for the form page - this is what I see

. . . . I have widget on the page that references a php form page via an iframe . . .

Is this form coming from a 3rd party website?

HI John,

The form is within my website:

@Graeme-Summers

Hi Graeme

Assuming this is what the form should look like from the direct link to it

and like this if accessed from the website menu

The only issue I can see is the embedded form is wider than its place holder and is being cropped - it moves left only when adding text that exceeds the visible width of the form text box.

It appears to be working - you should have a response from test@test.com.

Hi John,

Many thanks for looking into this.

I realised from your screenshots that the issue of superimposed main and mobile pages was probably just showing on my own devices (PC and iphone). I flushed the cache (Ctrl-F5 on Windows Chrome browser & Remove Website Data on my iphone) and that issue is now fixed.

I have also fixed the placeholder width so that looks good too.

Thanks again,

Graeme

Graeme, for what it's worth, I have just had the same thing happen to me, fleetingly. Multiple pages, on my Android, displayed both the mobile and main page together in a jumbled mess. I re-uploaded the site a couple of times, then rechecked, still the same. I then changed browsers on my phone and the problem had gone. I went back to first browser, and it then displayed the mobile site correctly.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Thanks @AAProds

Glad it's not just me.

@johnebaker - as moderator, can you pass this onto developers to investigate and hopefully fix? One possibility is adding an incremental number to any javascript files that have been changed so that they are then pulled fresh from the server rather than reloaded from the browser cache.

@johnebaker, like ALL the moderators on this forum, is simply a fellow-user of the software. We have no method of directly passing anything onto the developers of any of the software which Magix produces! Our method of contact is, essentially, the same as yours: the Support button in the header of any forum page. Clearly, we have staff members who we can message but no direct contact with any developer, sorry.

Hi

This is not an issue with Web Designer, it is the web browsers caching all or parts of the web page.

There may also be local cached copies on ISPs servers - this can be a pain as the cached files do not get refreshed until the ISPs cache times out and then fetches the latest version.

The caching is done to reduce load on the Internet and ensure that the viewer has a 'happy' experience with fast loading - you may remember the days of dial up modems?

For testing websites I use my laptop - it is set up to retain no cached data, Windows and the web browsers, are set delete everything ie history, cached files, cookies etc on exit.

Hi @emmrecs - thanks for the clarification.

@johnebaker, @AAProds

John - If outdated cached files can cause problems for me then they can also cause problems for my website visitors.

I have other software that circumvents the javascript cache issue by using the technique I suggested above. If the javascript filename is changed (along with the links to it) each time a javascript change is made, the cache is not used by the web browser and the "new" javascript file is downloaded and used instead.However, as @emmrecs suggests, I will suggest this to developers via the Support button.

Thanks again for the moderator support and input.
