VPX16; Make Newblue Effect Window bigger!?

Can-Dive wrote on 8/4/2024, 11:06 AM

I have both VPX16 and MMS2024 and this issue is probably related to the size of my laptop screen. When I apply a Newblue effect in MMS2024, I get a nice big window to view the effect. On the other hand, when I apply the same effect using VPX16, the Newblue window is substantially smaller - so much so that some of the filter descriptions are cut off. Obviously VPX16 uses more screen real-estate to display the Source Monitor and Project Bin, but I wouldn't expect that it would impact the size of the Newblue effect window. Any suggestions to increase the size of the Newblue effect window without increasing the VPX16 display size?

My copy of that plugin doesn't even come up looking the same.

No separate window, no rotary controls.

Have you bought the full version?

@Can-Dive

Hi,

You're using the old versions of NB effects that opens the old interface. @CubeAce and @Gid are using the new versions which are all OFX and don't open the old interface as everything is on the Media Pool Effects.

Hi

While you can increase the size of the old NB effects pane, the contents do not change size as would be expected.

I get the same size pane in VPX16 and MMS 2025 - I connot test in MMS 2024 at the moment.

Hi,

I just tested MMS 2024 against VPX16 and the size of the NB interfaces is identical.

@Can-Dive, so that you can see the difference between the old and the new, here is the old Spotlight interface

and here is the new OFX one.

Interesting. I knew there were two interface versions but I didn't realise one was old and the other was new. Prior to installing VPX I had Corel Video Studio and Pinnacle Studio installed on my machine. Video Studio used the "old" interface and Pinnacle Studio used the "new." I always preferred the Video Studio interface because it was more graphical and easier to change. When I purchased VPX16 Ultimate it came with 12 plugins ; one being Newblue Infinite Looks. I downloaded it within VPX16 under "Help"> "Activate content pack(s)". I entered in the coupon code provided and this was the result. Maybe its using the old interface that was originally installed by Video Studio which has the same plugins or Magix uses the old interface in this download. How did @CubeAce and @Gid source their Newblue plugins? @browj2 this is what Spotlight looks on my laptop. Notice that in VPX, the individual effects are smaller and squeezed together. Also the numerical fields are cut off.

@Can-Dive  I sort of remember getting that window like yours but it was a long time ago so i don't remember when.

I have NB TotalFX 7 that came with MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2022 Premium upgrade 16 Feb 2022, funny I'd just paid for the upgrade but a few mths after this offer came out so I paid again ( £41.99),

Emails

  • Me - Magix website is offering NewBlue TotalFX with it's upgrade of MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2022 Premium,
    This can't be the full Total FX can it?
  • NB - Yes it is except MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2022 Premium does not support Transitions or Stabilizer.  Other than that all of the other Effects are included.
  • Me - Thanks for your reply, despite already having Magix Edit Premium I paid again to get TotalFX,  everything is fine, I have Vegas Pro as well as Magix Premium, everything seems to work in Vegas ,
    Can you tell me, is it a permanent perpetual licence ?
  • NB - Yes, your TotalFX 7 license is perpetual.

I have old NB packages but I haven't installed them having no need to, but in the past with multiple separate packages occasionally I'd get the red cross activation problem. No such problem with just TotalFX 7 installed.

When I open Active Camera - Options it tells me it's in this package (that is within TotalFX 7)

These are what I have available but as you can see I only have TotalFX 7 installed.

Hi,

As you saw from my screen shot, I don't have the same problem as you with VPX16. The monitor is fullHD 1920x1080.

What is your laptop monitor resolution?

Still, it's strange that you get 2 different sizes.

@Gid

Thanks for the feedback. I do not have TotalFX7 so that may explain the different "looks" on our systems. Yours is the more universal plugin that works across platforms where mine is specific to VPX/MMS.

Can-Dive wrote on 8/4/2024, 9:27 PM

@browj2

Hi John, the display is the recommended 2560 x1600 and I think that is part of the problem. If I change the display to 1920 x 1080 the display becomes too large and VPX gets cut off.

1920 x 1080 full screen capture

@johnebaker has a similar spec laptop. From his above comments, its not clear to me if he is experiencing the same problem? He says his Newblue window between MMS2025 and VPX16 is the same size. He has MMS2025 which may have overwritten MMS2024 so not the same comparison as my machine.

Gid wrote on 8/4/2024, 9:56 PM

Could it be caused by your screen ratio which is 16 x 10 rather than the standard 16 x9?

I had the plugin before I also got Total Effects with MMS 2024 but all of my plugins have been through Magix and all of them port across to Vegas as well,

Hi

I am not seeing the issue with the NB interface and, while my laptop has a similar spec, the main difference in the comparison is my screen is 43.9 cm (17.3 inch) Full HD 1920 x 1080.

Higher resolution screens, particularly on laptops can cause issues with scalability and readability.

The reason I mentioned MMS 2025 is because I cannot test in MMS 2024 at the moment, it is not installed on my laptop.

Hi everyone, I think I solved it. What puzzled me was with my display at its recommended settings, both MMS2024 and Video Studio (VS2023) displayed the Newblue effects window correctly. This was not the case with VPX16. So I hypothesized that this was not necessarily a problem with my display settings but something to do specifically with VPX.

If you right click the the VPX icon and enter its properties, you can change high dpi settings

There are three alternatives, Application, System and System (Enhanced). For my computer, System was the best choice for me and produced the desired results;

"Application" produced the squished window as before and System (Enhanced) produced a weird trail of red player lines so it didn't work.

I'll continue testing this "System" mode to ensure the program is stable and will report back if I encounter any anomalies. Thanks for everyone's time, help and suggestions.
