Same in VPX 14 and MEP 2022. However if encoding to MPEG-2 it encodes faster to an ISO file than I can follow with my eye at standard and best settings but slows down a bit even with HWA depending on the effects etc involved.

Maybe this is just a limitation when dealing with MP4 exporting to an ISO file or optical disc?

Ray, something doesn't add up here. If I do a simple export to AVCHD/m2ts, I get hardware encoding. When I "burn" to a BD ISO, I get that message "update your graphics card driver, hardware encoding has been deactivated".

I have only tried to make ISO files and not had any such warnings about drivers. MEP /VPX has either applied HWA or not in the case of trying to use MP4. I have played around with various export settings.

As you know this is not my normal thing. I just tried to see if I could generate a driver warning or whether I got HWA or not.

There is a lot on the net about being able to rip DVD / Blu-ray discs with HWA to MP4 but I can find nothing about doing it the other way around. The only article I found was from 2016 which complained about speckled results when using HWA but that was back in the CUDA days.

Maybe that never improved or delved into. It seems the Blu-ray market is dying. Best Buy in America will no longer sell Blu-ray discs soon.

That is the worlds largest market. I think there are just four mainstream manufacturers of Blu-ray players now. Streaming services are taking over. I'm wondering how long before it will be impossible to build a new PC from scratch if you can't install Windows without the aid of a second machine. Go to a shop and get it on an SD card? Will it come with a CPU or motherboard?

It will end piracy of Feature films. Something the industry wants. Already Virgin media and Sky media players have successfully make it impossible to record their online film feeds within the last few months. I would imagine other companies following soon.

Ray, the image of the Burn screen you have above shows you're burning a DVD ISO. We're talking about burning a BD ISO.

"Ripping" is the term used to describe the process of taking off the files form a disk, not putting them on. The rip process does not use and encoding or codecs; it merely copies the movie files (or contents of the whole disk) onto the HDD.

Re "MP4", I don't believe we have any control over what codec the Magix DVD or BD burning process uses. For a DVD, it is VOB and for a BD, it's M2TS.

Agreed, 2 weeks ago I burned several projects to ISO with no issues, now I am getting the same 'error' message.

On further testing yesterday with those projects and others, when I check in Task Manager, I see that the RTX 2060 is being used with an average usage of 35 - 40 % depending on the projects.

The only changes to my laptop since HWA was working correctly have been 3 Windows 11 updates.

In a previous topic a user was experiencing the same thing, at that time I could reproduce the issue which appeared to occur when exporting AVCHD Interlaced only.

My mistake. I did get the same response you did when I tried with the Blu-ray option.

I do however know the difference between ripping and encoding and FABDVD can use hardware encoding to do that. At least it used to. I haven't bothered to back up a DVD or Blu-ray for a couple of years now, possibly four or five.

Ok, so do we agree that this is a problem with the programming of VPX15? Or is there something I haven't thought about?

This is interesting. It would also solve my problem because you have the option with the burning process to "not re-encode m2ts files". I'm wondering what you have that I don't.
I have not updated Windows10 in a while though. - However, that shouldn't be a problem; because I have successfully used Hardware Encoding including for BD's with an older Windows configuration.

Well @johnebaker said it was working until recently and I have had different problems that to me seem associated but both seem to revolve around Windows updates. How far back that goes I have no idea. Whether that means Magix or Microsoft need to update their programming I also have no idea. It may be good to raise tickets to Magix on the subject.

I am up to date with Win 10. I have updates set to automatic and as I am on the Enterprise Edition I get all of them within a week of release. Also this only a possible reason. I don't keep that many restore points so can't go back that far to see if it made a difference. Best to alert Magix and see the response from them. They may not even be aware of this problem at this point.

I have just updated Windows 10. I have some more rounds of updates to go, but no change yet. I'll send an email to Magix.

After further testing I have had some success at getting the BD rendering to use Hardware Acceleration by changing the Export option in Device options to the Intel iGPU. import and processing were set to my RTX GPU.

I have found a Nvidia GPU NVENC development guidance document which would suggest that the RTX 2000, 3000 and 4000 series GPUs cannot encode 'h.264 field information', further digging is necessary to determine what this means and if correct gives more support to using Intel ARC GPU's as discussed in this topic.

That's confusing, because if you have a 2000 series NVIDIA card and it was working a few weeks ago...?

The device options I have for export are: "CPU", "NVidia Geforce GTX 1660 Super", and "Microsoft WARP device". I have no idea what a 'MS WARP device is, but it's not working either.

My Windows 10 is now fully up to date and VPX15 is still not working. No round of updates produced positive results.

Hi John.

I can confirm your findings but the encoding seems it will take a long time using my HD 630. The project is one file proximately 2:30 in length. Slit into two with 20 secs of video containing additional Boris Effects titling embedded which could be causing the initial encoding slowness. Will report back when it finishes.

Not sure which to chose on one of the export options. Any help as in the past I was using a different program to produce discs or ISO files? Watch the short video to see what I mean.

What do you mean? Do you mean "encode all" / "use all". Or the difference between h.264 and MPEG-2.
Anyway, if you already have successfully encoded a full m2ts file, you don't have to re-encode it, you can simply use it and go straight away to the next step in stead of waiting.
Concerning the other: h.264 has more efficient coding. You can choose MPEG-2, but you will need a higher bitrate.

The reason for the first half of the video encoding took so long is I had Boris titler on the first clip of 20 seconds. I think once it got past that processing it took off.

I agree, however I feel that statement needs qualifying with 'providing no changes have been made to the project', in which case 'Encode all' should be used due to there being no way to control where the split of longer video projects into two or more .mts files will be. IIRC the maximum size of a single .mts file on disc is 2GB. ie approx 15 - 16 mins of video run time at default bitrates.

IMHO you have answered your own question, as I have commented many times before, there are some effects which do not get accelerated.

For testing the HWA issue when creating BD discs, I would suggest you use a simple project which has 4 - 5 minutes of video, no images, xfade or cut transitions and no other effects or the complex visuals some of your other projects have which further complicate and slow down the testing and are not always HWA .
