Voiceover commentary in movie

rickduley wrote on 4/22/2024, 2:26 AM

I am using Movie Edit Pro Plus (19.0.1.31). I am writing an MTS video to DVD. The MTS file plays in Movie Player Classic with the expected audio - lip sync okay and all. In MEPP it plays with a voiceover describing the action as one might require for the visually inhibited - the characters' speech is still okay.

How do I get rid of the voiceover?

@rickduley Hi, got to be honest I don't work with audio so there might be an easier answer so until you get a better reply - If the voiceover is on a separate channel try right click the audio track - Audio Cleaning & choose a channel ,

Hi Rick

Is the source video from a disc or other source, which has a commentary track, or is the commentary an audio file or recording you have added to the project?

If a commentary you have added, then you can mute the track it is on.

If from a disc or other source and is multi audio stream, ie one stream is the players' dialogue, and the second stream is the commentary, the commentary track should be ignored by MEP.

Note: I am referring to 2 separate audio streams not the left/right channels of stereo audio.

You can check this by right-clicking the audio portion of the video clip on the timeline and select the Switch current audio track option indicated below by the magenta arrow, the set track should be Audio track 1.

To remove unwanted audio streams, then click the option Extract sound channels (red arrow), ungroup the audio from the video and delete the unwanted channel(s)

This image is from MMS 2023 however MEP is the same.

Note - if you want the commentary track to be on the disc and selectable, ie on/off you cannot do this in MEP, only Video Pro X has this feature.

@johnebaker Hi, why are your right click options in 2023 different to my options in 2024? I don't see the Switch current audio track option, is this media dependant, does that only show with media with multi audio streams?

Hi Gid

. . . . is this media dependant? . . . .

Only in so far as the video clip must have separate audio streams - this is the MediaInfo of the sample file I used- I have removed unnecessary data:

@rickduley You can right click on the video - Video/Audio on separate tracks,

There's an option in - File - Settings - Program (or click Y on the keyboard), I'd leave this permanently unticked then in the future your video & audio will always be on separate tracks,

Hi Rick,

Can you answer the questions that @johnebaker asked in his first reply, please? We need to know a lot more about the source of the file(s) you are trying to use.

To help us, and you, please also provide a MediaInfo analysis of your .MTS file. If you're not sure how to do this please read and follow this tutorial. Thank you.

Hi,

I expect that you already have the video on the timeline. Click on it, do Ctrl+H, and you'll get video/audio on separate tracks, but joined.

We still need to see the details from MediaInfo.

Response to John Baker's questions
Is the source video from a disc or other source, which has a commentary track, or is the commentary an audio file or recording you have added to the project?

I recorded the file from free-to-air. You can download it from: https://1drv.ms/v/c/bb228147f3dd175d/EYP_T79NlxFAoJV02fB1AdwBPM2k2RmvhbETTgHdmz4vGQ?e=jKfxsi

If a commentary you have added, then you can mute the track it is on.

I have not added any commentary.

If from a disc or other source and is multi audio stream, ie one stream is the players' dialogue, and the second stream is the commentary, the commentary track should be ignored by MEP.

It isn't. Both MEP and Video Easy keep the commentary.

Note: I am referring to 2 separate audio streams not the left/right channels of stereo audio.
