Virtual Instrument Store limited selection

now37 wrote on 9/29/2017, 9:40 PM

How do I get a better choice of virtual instruments for the bundled "choice" selections?

I just purchased the Music Maker Premium Edition with MP3 deluxe 19 & Music Studio 2016, bundled supposedly with "at least" 8 instruments of my choice yet inside the Music maker there are only 8 (not so good) selection that you can choose for your instruments. I wanted to choose the ones in the website and the reason why I went premium - yet it wont allow me...

IS there a way to get my choice of instruments here:?

Hi,

Sorry, I don't follow you. The instruments, all of the ones that are in your link, are either in the program or available for purchase (or free download) under the Instruments tab. Scroll down and you will see "Expand your collection," followed by all of the instruments that you don't have. You should already have, by default, Concert Grand LE, Vita 2 (with many instruments inside of it) and Revolta 2, assuming that you completed the installation. If you have older versions of MMM with instruments, these should also be shown automatically. If not, you can Activate the prior version within this new version (see under Help for Activate) and it will install whatever instruments came with it.

So, first make sure that you have all of the legacy instruments, the 3 new ones, then select additional instruments under the Instruments tab (under Expand your collection) until you have used up your 8 choices. I had almost all, so I have a few choices left over, hoping that Magix will come up with a few more new instruments soon.

The link you posted is outdated for the new music maker. I can't see your problem. On the store you have the exact same instruments. All of the 24 from the link you posted are also in the in-app store. There are also more in the in-app store (34 instruments)

For more information just read the comment from browj2

Thanks browj2, I installed MMM with no error but in the "expand collection" its only showing a very limited selection. I can't see any more interface to see everything- I do know that Vita 2 and Vital instruments have more ( I use samplitude Pro X3 suite) I just don't want to buy the additional instruments at $39.99 each.

There's gotta be more than this selection right?

Thanks so much Horsti12.

I think I'm missing something here... There's the MMM store- I'm assuming that's the in-app store and I don't see the 24 or 34 instruments. Is there a "next page" button I missed?

I am interested in the VST instrument to play with midi and as you can see (above) its only showing 6 'not-so-good' choices.

I also tried in Music Studio 2016 thats bundled with it and can't get the instruments I wanted.

Appreciate all you guys help- if you guys can think of something else.

@now37 Strange. Can you try the instruments tab. Just scroll there down and then also take a photo.

And can you please tell us your current version number? Click on help and than on something like "about music maker" (I can not tell you the exact name, since I use the german version)

And can you please make the mediapool a little bit wider so we can see more of it.

Music Maker version 25.1.0.59 I just bought it yesterday and checked today for new patches no more available updates.

This is the widest I can get on the mediapool(?) - I'm not sure if I did this right

Weirdest thing is that when I open MMM the "Activate Edition" is red, like I did not activate it so I tried it again and it says that the serial number is already activated and I downloaded everything...

@now37

As you know, if you select Vita from the list (clicking on the + at the left of the track) you get another list of instruments within Vita. This is separate from the other full instruments that you either received with the program or can buy.

You are right, the list of instruments available to purchase is not the same in the English as in the German version. I have the same limited list. Something is wrong. We should each point this out to Magix in a ticket.

I don't have all of the instruments that were working in the previous version (2017 Premium) and that had been installed with MusicMaker over the years, plus the two instruments that I purchased separately previously. Something is wrong there as well.

Note that the new instruments that I added with this version (I added 3 out of the 8) do not work in Samplitude Pro X3, whereas before, any instruments that were installed, worked. I will include this in my ticket.

Worse, Magix has a proprietary format for soundpool loops now, with the extension .mxcOGG. They don't work in anything but the newer versions of MMM. They should work across all Magix products, including Samplitude, MusicStudio and the video editors. I will also raise this.

I already had all of the soundpools that are on the 4 CD's of Soundpool Collections. So this was a waste. Magix is recycling old stuff that was already included in Premium versions previously. I'm not happy with this at all. There was precious little benefit to me for "upgrading."

I have a couple of additional complaints that I will include in the ticket.

Right now, this upgrade is a downgrade.

I have 25.1.0.59.

Thanks Browj2, I guess it was too good to be true.

I have sent an email inquiring about these "limitation" and appearing to be false advertisement. I have been an avid supporter of Magix since Music Studio 10 and purchased the European version Samplitude Music Studio and eventually to Pro X3. I do know their limitation on technical support but I'm hoping (today) it improved.

I really wanted to get the additional VST instruments only and I hope I didn't waste my money.

Celtic Harp
Concert Guitar
Century Guitars
Electric Bass
Pop Brass
Saxophonia
World Flutes
World Percussion

I got the world flutes and you're right it did not work in Pro X3 and neither in the bundled Music Studio this MMM "premier" edition. I think I'll stick with Kontakt from now on but still hoping (more rooting) for Magix to turn around- I hope I dont be one of the guys in the Samplitude Forum and left the platform altogether due to frustrations.

So if the upgrade is a downgrade. Can I still purchase the previous versions and get the better instruments?

A little late to the conversation, however, I see no mention of this in the topic and not having the v25. upgrade yet, is there an option to download and install free extras under Help, Update program/Upgrade functions, Download free synthesizer and sound packages . . . .?

Hi johnebaker

So far the help tab has "update programm" which check if you have updates... I checked most of the help menu files closes is like what browj and horsti said- the in line store. see below

The bundled music studio that came with the premium shows my VST from other Magix products and takes me to Magix web Additional instruments which I have to pay $39.99 each...

Once again, I was booted out. When is Magix going to fix this website? (Rhetorical question)

I added some instruments to C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Music Maker\25\MxSynth from the previous version by copying the ini and shortcut files. They show up in MMM2018 but trying to use them brings up an alert that the library is not activated, followed by Magix Vita - File not found, as usual for non-activated instruments. However, these instruments work fine in everything else - MMM2017 and Samplitude.

MMM2018 has the following activation screen:

I activated not only 2018, but 2016 Live and MMP(2017) and 2015 Premium. This is very convoluted as the program downloaded and uninstalled/reinstalled all instruments that were purchased with these editions. I thought that all instruments would show up as usual, but they didn't. Those purchased with earlier versions or special version or MusicStudio or Samplitude MusicStudio did not show up, nor did the 2 that I purchased separately. For the latter, I can find no way to even try to activate them.

The About screen no longer shows the Activation code; in its place is your email address.

As pointed out by now37, the startup screen shows "Activate Edition" in red and I also tried reactivating only to find that it is already activated.

Below is the Help menu showing the options available now. No more getting the rest of the stuff here.

Below is the menu under Store at the upper left. It is showing up on my second monitor now, probably because I had some windows on the second monitor.

Magix has some explaining to do.

John CB do North America (incl USA) have a different version than Germany like Horti? I would think when they are testing the different versions- only the languages would be different and should be QC before release. I sent an email regarding my disappointment. Horstis2's German version seems to be working.

So those extra instruments are from your previous activation right John? Did those extra instruments came when you played with MXSynth?

I am interested in all the guitars and bass but its all moot now as it wont work with Sam Pro X3 suite.

I bought some VST Kontakt 5 based today... really sad couldnt get Magix products to work.

browj2 wrote on 10/1/2017, 10:43 AM

@now37

Something is wrong with our version as all of the instruments that we don't have should show up under Store, Instruments. Note that those that we don't have should all show up, but they don't. Under Store, with the dropdown showing "More instruments," click on the gear and you can toggle "Show purchased items." One way shows the purchased instruments, the other shows available for purchase items and any that are there for Update, as is the case for me for Vita Sample. It shows Update and it is free.

In MMM2017, on my laptop, I don't have all of the instruments loaded that I have on my desktop. I have more showing for purchase than those that show up for purchase in MMM2018 on my desktop, but I have less instruments in 2018 than in 2017. I also noticed that in 2017 on the laptop (without 2018 installed), the instruments purchased under 2018 show up as available for download, free.

@johnebaker

Instead of the download of Free synthesizer and sound packages that was under Help, everything is done under Store. Anything that did not get downloaded and installed is available under Store, including presets and functions. As far as I can tell, anyone who has the free version can purchase additional functions as required. Of course, this could quickly be much more expensive than simply purchasing the Plus or Premium version.

In the images below, you will note that I have some things to download/update.

I am preparing a tutorial for all of this to replace the Getting Started one for 2015, just not as long, I hope.

I got thrown out again, before posting, but I had done a copy all before trying to post. Also, often while writing up the reply, it freezes. I then have to click on open another tab in Edge or another tab, then go back before being able to continue writing. Sometimes when I click on another tab, it splits it off into a new instance of Edge. Have you had this problem?

I have the same problem, instruments missing and VST crashes. Yet again Magix has got it wrong.

Nickillus wrote on 10/3/2017, 1:21 PM

I'm lucky in that I've managed to transfer my instruments from versions 2013, 14, 15, 16 1nd 17 to version 18. However I've encountered another issue and as yet, Magix haven't got an answer for me. The responded very quickly though. Credit for that.

On top of those instruments that I've gained through updating versions, I also bought six individual instruments over time. Theoretically they should be showing up in the 'in app' store, and Magix had no hesitation coming up with some coupons to allow me to 'purchase' them free for this version - which I have to applaud them for.

Unfortunately this can only work if the instruments are shown inside the app, and as said the instruments do not exist there. Magix support clarified quickly that it is no longer possible to buy them through the store using the old system for this version. So for the moment I am down around £180 worth of instruments for MMPremium 2018.

Good job I kept version 2016 installed, where the instruments still exist. I live in hope that a solution can be found soon. You can do it, Magix.

For the record, 2018 version is proving quite stable on my Windows 7 Pro system so far. That should curse it . . . . Also it handles some third party vst instruments for me that no previous version has.

Stephen20 wrote on 10/3/2017, 1:40 PM

Thank you for great feed back. But this has not given me much hope in Magix. I too have gained all the instruments over time, since years ago. Lucky for me I have all, in 2017 premium. I think until Magix sorts the problem I will have to stick with the 2017 Premium version. I feel sorry for all who have been upgraded and mislead by Magix yet again, they do this, in every years updates, and takes 4 months to put right. If you as company are making software you should know what you are doing, and look after your customers. I feel for everyone who has lost money because of Magix. I have Windows 10 Pro 64bit and can not install the VST'S because when you do the program freezes and crashes. I have sent off ticket requests, and still have not heard from them yet, I wonder why?😡😡😡

now37 wrote on 10/3/2017, 7:48 PM

I guess it'll be 4 months at least to get what Magix promised of 8 free choices of instrument. Not to knock off Magix, I still use their samplitude Pro X3 suite and still my DAW choice but the reason why I bought the bundled MMM Premium edition is just the 8 instruments and they charge $40 US for each.

Objectively speaking, comparing the price of Magix typical virtual instruments (VI) with other products' quality (software, sound, articulation and intuitive interface), it appears that Magix Vita is not competitively priced. Especially if Magix avid and supportive users appears to be penalized by: 1)paying double the average market price; 2) to buy each instrument different version to work in MAGIX product line- I think (MMM, SAM, MS, etc.); and 3) a little has changed (from what I can remember) since then.

Most decent VI can be purchased as low as $20.00, Magix should re-price theirs, at least for Magix supporters who have more than one Magix product.

I just got komplete kontakt and its pretty impressive but still I wanted for Magix Independence Pro to be as competitive as others and like I said- I still root for MAGIX and was hoping these bundles would work Independence Pro.

I think its unfair for users to keep using the old legacy software if Magix just have a better QC and development team... I guess time to dig up the old Music Studio Deluxe 10 to use what I already had and now have to pay for it again.

Thanks for all the comments and review. I have asked for a refund if they will honor it.

I guess I have to go back to Samplitude ProX and Kontakt until MAGIX can sort this out.

@now37

I sent off a long ticket to Magix today complaining about this whole thing. There is nothing new that I have found in this "new" version of MusicMaker except a royal mess. I told them that whatever instruments were working before should be working in the new version, and that one should not have to go through any procedure to get them to work. Any new instruments must work with all recent versions of Magix audio products. Previously purchased instruments must work with this "new'" version. All instruments must be for sale in the Store and/or in the website and if purchased, must work in all recent versions of Magix audio products.

The same applies to Soundpools. All recent Magix products, including the video products, should be able to use the new .mxcOGG format. Sam Pro X3 Suite handles Soundpool loops, but not the new ones. This is ridiculous.

I told them that this version is not an upgrade, it is a downgrade.

I do not want credits and coupons that cannot be used or additional instruments that don't exist.

I don't know what to make of the only presets left that I don't have: Deep Vocoders, and Electronica Hook Vocoders. Click on the "i' and it says, "For regular purchase only! Credits cannot be offset!" What does that mean? I am afraid to try using one of my coupons to find out that the coupon expires and that the purchase does not work.

A user on the French side managed to get Vita String Ensemble working, but only after making changes to the registry and a few other things. This should not be happening.

It will be interesting to see the reply from Magix. Users should keep up the pressure.
