Videos have out of sync audio in Movie Studio 2022

Mathieu-Gaouette wrote on 3/14/2022, 11:48 AM

Hi,

I have upgraded to 2022 some time ago and everything was fine. The all of a sudden, possibly after a software update, the app started having some sync problems on my videos. I have found a work around for the 2016 version but nothing for the 2022 version. Anyone knows how to fix this?

Thanks

@Mathieu-Gaouette

Hi

. . . . The all of a sudden, possibly after a software update, the app started having some sync problems on my videos . . . .

There are 3 known causes of the issue you are having:

  1. the source video is Variable Frame Rate (VFR), this is common with from an iPhone, screen recording or one of the economy cameras that are available.

    Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required if you see this information in the Video section

    Frame rate mode: Variable

    then the video needs converting to Constant frame rate (CFR) using a video converter such as Handbrake.

  2. the source video is MPG or VOB (from a DVD) format - right click the video and select Create (new) frame table, this usually fixes the problem.

  3. the Speed effect has been applied - this is a known issue - see this rather long topic from this comment onwards - though this refers to Video Pro X, it also affects Movie Edit Pro - now known as Movie Studio

If none of these fix the issue then we need more information:

  • your computer specification and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full - I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

  • Are the graphics card drivers up to date?

  • A screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab would help.

  • A MediaInfo analysis of one of the source videos that exhibits the out of sync audio

I'm sick and tired of out-of-sync audio and video with Magix! I like the Magix better than Vegas, but constantly have syncing issues. I get half way though my editing than I find my audio is now out of sync. Vegas does not have this issue. But at the same time, Vegas does not have the interface I love. catch-22.

@robertkjr

Hi

Have you followed the reply above to the OP's question and done a MediaInfo analysis of your source video(s) that are causing this issue?

If the result is that the video clips are Variable framerate have you tried converting them to Constant framerate as advised above?

If the source video is Constant framerate then, as requested above we need more information in order to help you.

Just upgraded to Movie Studio 2023 Platinum, thinking that this would solve my problems editing 4k videos, but no success so far. The 4k MP4 videos I downloaded have audio and video that is perfectly in sync outside of Movie Editor, but once I bring the MP4's into Magix Studio 2023 Platinum, the video and audio are out of sync in both the viewer and the processed output files. Looking forward to a solution.

@Doug-Tracy

Greetings,

Your audio out of sync is, on the surface, a quite common problem however before I (or others) can really offer a solution we need information about the video file.

Please download an free app called Mediainfo, as requested here https://www.magix.info/us/forum/please-do-the-following-before-posting-your-question--621831/ to give us the information required to help.

Hi -

Thanks for the quick follow-up. I don't post very often in this forum, so hopefully the info on my signature and below (the input video file info from MediaInfo) will help toward finding a solution.

@Doug-Tracy Hi.

Not really as the information needed is in the Text View part of the editor.

I'm going tog guess the files either come from a computer app like a screen capture program or from a smart phone, but we need more information than that. You should be able to copy and paste the information from that tab in the program.

Sorry to be a pain. This file was downloaded from a Polaroid id995 4K digital camcorder. The file info on the device only says "4K30FPS". The file properties from the downloaded video file are below. I've tried more adjustments in Movie Studio 2023 than I can count, including the suggested Handbrake conversion (export file is jittery, but video-audio sync seems to be OK).

When I insert the video file in Magix, I see this message describing the file dimensions: "The active Movie has a resolution of 1920x1080 (16:9), 30.00 fps. The file “ANMR0006.mp4” has a resolution of 3840x2160 (16:9), 30.02 fps."

Really appreciate you spending time on this.

johnebaker wrote on 4/21/2023, 11:53 AM

@Doug-Tracy

Hi

See this tutorial on how to get the information we require from MediaInfo.

. . . . 3840x2160 (16:9), 30.02 fps . . . .

The file name prefix would suggest the Polaroid camera is from the same manufacturer of another camera which uses the same prefix and naming convention and is variable framerate video - hence the odd value of 30.02 fps.

In which case see this comment near the top of this topic.
