Video saver

Ralfen wrote on 1/25/2024, 10:45 AM

Hi,

I have successfully installed Video Saver on my laptop, but grabbing the video from my VHS unit does not work. Sound is though transferred.. I have enabled camera and voice as described elsewhere in the forum, reinstalled the programme without virus programs and firewall, nothing seems to work. The Scart contact is set on "out". What to do next?

@Ralfen

Welcome to the Magix user forums.

As a first step, please read this Magix help page and ensure you have the correct driver for your specific USB connector installed.

If that does not help resolve the problem, please post back with FULL details of your laptop and operating system (please read this post for the level of detail we really need, thank you).

@Ralfen

Hi

Does the VCR have 2 SCART sockets, if so is the SCART plug inserted in the Out socket?

@Ralfen

Thank you for the additional information.

Certain things are slightly concerning:

  1. If your program is called Video Saver, this is now rather old. The current version is called Rescue Your Videotapes.
  2. Your computer CPU is quite old now (it is a second generation model, the latest is fourteenth generation, and quite slow, sorry). Also its integrated graphics (Intel HD3000) are really not adequate for any sort of modern video-type work, in my opinion.
  3. Your installed RAM is barely enough to run your Operating System successfully I think.
  4. You say you installed all three drivers. That is most definitely NOT appropriate, if by three drivers you mean those listed on that page, one each for each different "colour" of USB converter. You need the one that is correct for the colour of connector you have! Before attempting any further installation you need to FULLY uninstall all those you have installed so far!
  5. MediaInfo is not going to be of any use to you or us at the moment since it is designed to analyse both the audio and video elements of any file you have transferred to your computer and you don't have video!

A suggested "plan of action":

  1. FULLY UNINSTALL everything connected with Magix Video Saver (aka Rescue Your Videotapes). Our recommendation in such circumstances is to use the free Revo Uninstaller. Download and install it and then point it to your Video Saver program and have it carry out an Advanced Uninstall. Make sure you check carefully everything it says it is going to remove, especially if you have other Magix program installed.
  2. Once the uninstall is finished, restart your computer. Make sure you use the Shut down or sign out>Restart option.
  3. Install the appropriate drivers for your USB Connector, then your program software. I would suggest you do NOT plug the USB Connector in to your computer until the program indicates it "cannot find it" or similar message.

There can be no guarantee this will work given the age and specifications of your computer but I hope you will consider it worth your while to do. Good luck!

Jeff

Hi Jeff.

Magix Video Saver for Windows 10 and 11 can still be bought boxed if you can find a copy.

And as you can see it states only 4GBs of ram is required but the Intel i5-2520M's GPU (HD 3000) although supports up to Direct X 11 can only access parts of it up to Direct X 10.1 and I doubt has access to 1GB of additional ram for video processing as you say Windows Pro 10 would have used almost all of that upon loading the operating system. I do find the specs on the side of that box somewhat confusing. Had the machine been a desktop a second hand or old stock nvidia card could have been added as the CPU could also have been used.

A pity.

Ray.

Hi, and thanks for your replies and suggestions. No success so far with video, just get sound transferred.

1. yes, the Scart out has been in use on the vcr

2. I have followed “the plan of action”, used the Revo uninstaller.

3. I have tried black and premium drivers separately, my usb connector is K0065 so I think the premium is the correct one to use.

4. yes, my laptop is beyond “best date”

I have to consider other options now.
