Like John, I often use SUPER. But recently I've noted that many apparently experienced users in the videohelp forum http://forum.videohelp.com/forums/18-Newbie-General-discussions warn of spamming and malware risks and recommend against it. My version, downloaded a few years ago, was clean and has given me good service on the few occasions I need to convert. But I might hesitate now. Especially as I recall it was also very difficult to actually navigate to a download link that didn't take me round in circles while advertising the program's merits.
There are lots of alternatives and you'll probably get other suggestions. But one that I've only recently discovered, despite using it for years as my preferred video player, is VLC. That free program can quickly convert FLV and many other formats and is easy to use.http://
I got the Super, trying to figure it out now, I've been using Prism Video Converter so this is very different. I'll let you know how it goes, whether I figure out how to use Super or not.
Excerpt from eRightSoft's agreement:
"Only the main GUI (Graphical User Interface) of SUPER is written by eRightSoft. However, this installation package contains as well other executable files written by third parties. Some of these third party companies may recommend or provide advertisements about various services or may even download and install several other softwares or toolbars that replace your current browser's homepage and modify your default browser's search engine. Note that during the installation process your web browser might be launched to open and display some advertisements or related information." http://download.cnet.com/Super-Video-Converter/3000-2194_4-10277613.html#rateit#ixzz2NmOo4QI7
I updated my version of Super to the latest from eRightsoft and copped a very pernicious browser addon called Default Page/ Search Results which adds a search helper to your browser and takes over the home page and any other search engine you had and popups to install iLivid software . This is despite telling the installer to only install Super
I do not recommend this software any more and suggest avoiding it until eRightsoft get the thing removed.
I have sent eRightsoft an email - if I get a response I will post it on the forum.
Apologies to any one who has downloded it on recommendations here and copped the unwanted add ons.
. . . . I'm surprised you decided to live dangerously after my last post! . . . .
I had already updated before I read your post . no notifications again.
I had previously updated the installation in November 2012 with no problems at all - it was only the last update direct from their websitewhich clearly states at the bottom of the page:
. . . . Note that during the installation process your web browser might be launched to open and display some advertisements or related information." . . .
And who writes the installation package ??? This smacks of passing the buck.
This software has similarities to the Internet Explorer embedded in the OS vs EU case which made it very clear - I thought - that embedding other programs included with a piece of software with no option but to install it is illegal.
Fortunately the thing did remove cleanly and there were no residuals found after running Spyware Doctor.
. . . . live dangerously . . .
Of course - how many other people would run towards a 1500 ft sheer drop on the top of a mountain over 1 mile (5600 ft to be precise) above the valley floor.
I tried the Super, didn't do what I needed, got rid of it, tried other converters, came to the conclusion the file I was trying to convert is just flawed. There was a section that didn't convert but the rest of it did. Anyways, I'm back to using Prism Video Converter from NCH. We are using Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder for streaming our services and it saves the files as FLV format, then I take it home and work it up for youtube viewing and archiving. Thank yall
