I seem to be having inconsistencies when editing. 1st, the "Spilt" doesn't seem to always work. I put the marker where I want, hit split, but nothing happens. I was successful on my first couple attempts, but now no luck. 2nd, when I drag a video to Track 1, it pops into Track 2. Positive it's my new user condition, just a bit frustrating. Basically I have 3 hours of footage of my band playing, and I'm trying to create a separate video for each song. Using Movie Editor Pro 2013.

Just a quick couple of thoughts:
If "Split" seems not to work sometimes, try and make sure the clip is highlighted before hitting Split. Does that help? If not, give us a step by step account of exactly how you are attempting to make the split.
The only scenario in which I have seen a clip go into the "wrong" track is if there is already something, however small, on that track at the place where you are trying to insert the new clip i.e. you are trying to place a clip directly ""on top of" another video or audio object (zoom right in to check.)
