The way that I would do it would be to have two separate titles, left and right.

Hi,

I was mistaken. There were two - one for the left and one for the right, so as I indicated, you would need both left and right title objects, working together. The templates that used to be there and I added them to My Own folder are "Scrolling text on left" and "Scrolling text on right" each coming with a vertical bar background.

For some reason, the forum is not accepting my jpg or png uploads.

Could you please show me where and how in Vegas Movie Studio you get the "standard credit role"? I have Vegas MS16.

I do not have MS 14 installed on this PC, but I recall in the Effects/Title (may have had a slightly different name or path) it was possible to include a table (with no borders) in line with straight text, was perfect for a credit role (but it was not called that).

After posting I wondered it there is a way to simply create the entire credits in an external editor and then import and animate it so it scrolls bottom to top. For example it would be easy to create anything, at least I would want, in html. So if I can import an html file, voila! I'm off to look into it.

Hi Graham,

Found it! It's under Generated Media and that is something not in MMS. Wish we had it.

You can try doing as I indicated:

1. Create the left side title, with scrolling (animation from bottom to top or top to bottom), right justified. Ajust the location on the screen.
2. Copy the title to the next track down (Ctrl+drag with left mouse button)
3. Drag the image to the right. Don't worry about lining it up vertically just yet, get close.
4. Left adjust and modify the text - make sure to keep each line where the left one was.
5. Select the first title, Effects, View/Animation, Size Position Rotation and not the value beside Vertical (adjust the position if you want)
6. Select the second title, SPR and type the same Vertical value into the box, Enter.

You will now have two-column vertically scrolling text.

Alternatively, you can get Blufftitler. I don't know if it's possible in NB Titler Pro. Someone can check.

However, the easiest and quickest is what I described above.

EDIT:

Group the two titles and select them. Be sure to be on the title editing screen for one of the. Click on the drop down arrow at the upper right, Save as Special Effect. Give it a name.

Go to Title Templates, My Own, and your title template will be there for future use.

Hi John.

New Blue Titler is very powerful and you could make and save any type of template you wanted to. The main problem would be learning how to do it. I can make my own templates easily enough in Boris Effects Titler but the layout and control of the New Blue one is different and I haven't bothered to more than take a cursory glance at it. I can see similarities between both programs but the layouts of the controls and the graphical interfaces are very different. I have altered existing templates in New Blue and saved them as custom templates but so far have not tried creating one from scratch.

Your idea of using two sets normal sets of text running side by side would be quicker but I'm not sure you could save it for further easy usage whereas time spent creating a custom template could be used again and again. Just put new text into the text areas you create in the saved template. My main beef with both programs is the amount of grunt a system seems to need to have for them to work smoothly or indeed in real time.

In my limited experience I found New Blue Titler is best set up used as a standalone program and then import the result into the project. Boris Titler is best used within the video editor and has additional quick steps for animation once a template is loaded.

thanks again both. Some good ideas to try out. My brother had another suggestion, maybe that is what New Blue Titler does, he suggest making an MP4 of just the credit roll in another program then mixing it into the target video in Movie Studio.

What I proposed is very simple.

I'm trying to upload an MP4 but the forum is refusing it for some reason. I'll do up a quick and dirty tutorial as it's very simple to do what I said.

Hi Ray,

VPX and MS allow you to save several kinds of templates, Titles being one of them. Do as I described.

My double title is put on the timeline when I import my template.

John's suggestion is not that computer intensive on the system.Quick and easy to set up and keep in sync as long as both have the same amount of lines and are of the same length. Less steps and quicker to implement.

Just to add a couple of comments to John and my videos.

If you want the lines to scroll faster or slower just lengthen or shorten the title objects along the timeline.

As long as the template has at least a few lines on each side you can use more or less lines with each use. It's just the template will come up with the same amount of lines and text each time it is opened.

You can make each template as complex or simple with as many text objects as you like and save as an effect. A third text box could be made to go central before, at the same time, or after the title roll. You can change fonts, sizes and colours. Add minimal 3D although I'm not sure if shadows are working properly yet. Add background texture or video clip or other animation such as flip or spin with the use of the size position rotation effect John shows in his video. In a lot of respects the New Movie Studio is much more flexible than the old one. It just takes a bit of time to wrap your head around what can be done.

Just implemented your method. As you say, very easy to implement and very clean. Being a newbie as far as Movie Studio goes, and video editing too, I learned a number of things from you other than how to do a credit role, credit John & Ray!

I think once you get into the workflow of the program you will find it very versatile. I found it quite intuitive and logical once I got used to the way the tracks work. Happy editing.
