Very old videos don't import - 320 x 240 resolution, Error 0x2F07?

Ok... I have some very, very old video files (10-15 years old in some cases) that I'm trying to combine. A lot of them are in 320x240 resolution. I haven't had a problem opening them up in Winamp or iMovie on a Mac, but when I try to "import" them into Magix Movie Edit Pro, I get the following error:

The file format of [filename] cannot be read!

Error 0x2F07: cannot find stream in mov

(A couple of other people have mentioned this error code here, but unfortunately neither of their queries were answered in a way that's useful to me.)

I've found other similar videos with higher resolutions don't have the same problem - 640x480 work fine for example. These are probably more recent. EDIT: I have found some 480x360 videos that do display the same problem however.

The videos are in mp4 format, but I don't have a clue what codec was used to record them. The information isn't given in the video properties in Windows. I thought that "mp4" was a standard that should be usable by anything, but apparently that's not the case? How do you get Magix to be compatible with old videos in 320x240 resolution?

Thanks for any help!

Hi

. . . . . The file format of [filename] cannot be read!

Error 0x2F07: cannot find stream in mov . . . . .

. . . . The videos are in mp4 format, . . . .

You have a conflict of formats according to the above two statements - the MOV file format is a Quicktime file format and MP4 is a different file format.

Check that your Quicktime is up to date, if it is not installed then install Quicktime.

. . . . I thought that "mp4" was a standard that should be usable by anything . . . .

Note: -

Both MOV and MP4 are 'container' file formats and can have various codecs for video and audio inside them.  If Quicktime ( for MOV files ) or the codecs used within the MP4 files are not installed then the files cannot be read.

You can use MediaInfo to analyse a video or audio file to find out which codecs are used.
