Version 18: No online catalog

I updated from v17 to v18 a few days ago. Today I renewed the update service.

I open the program and try to access the Content Catalog. I select File - New from Content Catalog or if I have an image open I select Insert from Content Catalog. Whichever of the two I choose results in a blank window being shown. The window label is New From Content Catalog or From Content Catalog. The window is divided vertically into two, both of which sections are completely blank.

I thought perhaps I should run Help - Download Content Installer to see if this fixed the problem. The installer started to run and gave the message Starting Installation. I then receive the message

Xara Photo & Graphic Designer (Content Pack)

To execute this installation, you must first install
Xara Photo & Graphic Designer.

Can anyone please advise ?

After further checking, I have found that
1. Help - Introductions gives the same blank window and
Help - Movies shows the intro screen but selecting a
category shows a window with a text list of what I assume
are videos, eg. Moving Objects Videos shows
Alignment 1
Alignment 2
Moving objects backwards and forwards within a layer
etc
Selecting any of these does not have any affect. No video,
no error message, nothing.
2. Load Design gallery shows a list of items. When I select
any item I get a + sign with the legend More online.
Clicking the + sign has no effect.
