I am desperate to find a person who knows hows the Vegas Program works. I have a VEG file, its a video I sent in an email from a Sony Handy Cam camera RCA cables to laptop without formatting the disk first. The original file is there but it won't play of course. It's been almost 10 years since I sent this video in the email. I need to find a Vegas Pro expert who can help me. Please reply back if anyone is interested in helping me.

Hi again. I have slept and had time to think about this.
I think first you need to recover the file to a readable state. For that you need either a data recovery tool if you can trust yourself to do it or find someone who can or send it to a company to try to recover it. Without that, I doubt if any video editor can handle the file. You may even need the original disc, card, or whatever the medium was recorded on to get anywhere as the original file would have been recorded to a medium that was formatted but not by the device using it so the File Allocation Table (FAT) needed to read the blocks of a certain size in the correct order would be there to be able to assemble the data into a readable file. Without that, the data could well be just a jumble of ones and zeros and completely corrupted. Transferring that information to another location could mean the data is already not readable by most normal means. A data recovery service may be able to help but you would have to describe exactly what went on, but that is just a guess on my part as I have no idea how sophisticated that sector of the industry has got over the past few years.

Can you tell us how you came to this forum? We are getting many users of Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio arriving here only to be re-directed to the correct forum.

Hi once again.
I have looked at your posting on the Vegas website here. Which has made me look up a few things such as what is a VEG file.
A VEG file is similar to a Movie Edit Pro or VPX project file (MVP file). Those are the main programs covered here.
As such it is an instruction set as to handle the files that should be in the project folder. It carries no video file information in itself, hence its relatively small size.
If that is all you sent then I'm afraid your video clip no longer exists and is the reason it can no longer be read.
