Hi, I was doing some test encodes with the MainConcept encoder to compare the difference in file size & quality between Variable Bitrate and Target Quality mode using the same video clip. Sticking to the default values, the Target Quality export had noticeably more compression artififacts and softening than the VBR version. It also had a smaller bitrate and file size. My question is why the VBR mode gives better quality than the Target Quality version. Perhaps the default values of 24-25-27 for the Frame QP’s aren’t low enough for the resolution of the clip I was using to test it with?
The resolution of the test clip used is 720x576i @ 25fps.
