In a nutshell: If you already have recordings on your hard drive (in a suitable audio file format, like WAV or MP3), you can bring them into Music Maker by dragging & dropping them from the built-in "File Manager" tab or from the Windows file browser. If you want to perform an audio recording into Music Maker (e.g. singing over a backing track), that's possible via the red record button in the main transport controls. (Click on the cog wheel button next to it in order to configure the recording process in more detail.)
