User defined midi loops -- did something change, or how do I do it

ermichalski wrote on 6/19/2016, 11:46 AM

I recorded a midi object directly into Magic Music Maker Premium but it has some space in it, and I want to shorten it as well.   But I do not see how to do this.   I have tried edit -> object -> loop range ->set user defined loop after selecting the object but when I stretch out the object it goes back to the orginal size and does not loop my new selection.

If I do this for an audio recording it works fine but it does not work with my own midi which I record in MMM.  It also seems to work with the sound pools.  How do I handle this?

Hi,

Unless there is some other way to do this, you have to export the midi file that you created to a midi file, then import it. Once imported, you can trim it if you want, then select it, then from the top menu, Edit, Object, Loop range, Set user-defined loop. Now when you strectch it, it is a loop.

Strectching a regular MIDI object that you created simply adds space to the object to add in more notes. Strange that it has to be done as above. Maybe Magix or someone else knows of another way.

This same thing happens with an audio recording. You have to export, import to be able to apply it as a loop.

Hi

Assuming yopu mean you have recorded playing a MIDI synthesizer and have gaps / pauses - try using the MIDI Editor as shown below.

Double click the MIDI object recording - you can then move / edit / delete the individual MIDI notes and set up various note parameters.

@John EB,

This would only get rid of the extra notes and needs to be done first. I'm not sure, but I think that ermichalski wants to loop the midi object that he created by stretching it out, "but when I stretch out the object it goes back to the orginal size and does not loop my new selection."

If so, then the only way that I could find was to export/import the midi file. This is more or less documented in the manual. The other way to do it without looping, would be to make multiple copies. But if one then wanted to modify a note or something, the copies would have to be remade.

Try strectching the created midi object to see if it loops. For me, it leaves blank space even after defining it as a loop. Try a .tak soundpool loop and you will see that stretching to the right loops the object. Now try export/import of the created midi object and try dragging to the right. It should loop.

Hi John CB

I read the post as meaning ermichalski has recorded a MIDI track, using for example a MIDI keyboard, however there are 'pauses' in the playing - something I get regularly not being sufficiently proficient at playing chords etc    - and therefore needs to remove these 'pauses and get rid of any silence at the end or beginning by moving the notes in the MIDI Editor.

As you say the MIDI when stretched does add blank space even when set to a loop, so has to be 'exported'.

I do this as a MIDI take (TAK) file, which can then be added to the timeline to replace the original recording and when stretched behaves as required.

Cheers

John EB
