@David-LaCombe

Welcome to the Magix forums.

An interesting question! When upgrading recently e.g. from 2019 version to 2020 version, the upgrade will first remove the older version. That is now the "standard" behaviour, but it has caused a level of disquiet!

My understanding is that this procedure only applies to the more recent versions of MM than yours and I think your 2015 version will not be touched.

I'm not sure that simply choosing the new product option rather than the upgrade option will actually have any effect in this regard but I'm pretty certain that other users do still have older versions like yours installed alongside the latest one. @johnebaker am I correct?

. . . . still have older versions like yours installed alongside the latest one. @johnebaker am I correct? . . . .

I do indeed have older versions, 2013 to 2016 still installed and usable - Windows 10 1809 finally finished off version 17 and made MX partially work.

Certainly the start of the current version MEP 2017 did not remove the older programs. If the installer says it will remove the older version, step it back or cancel then restart and see if there is a custom install option that will lave the old version.

@johnebaker

Hi John,

The OP is asking about MM, not MEP, but I assume the situations are the same?

Hi,

First, MMM2020 is free. Download and install it. Once in, activate it with your Activation Code for MMM2015, making sure that you are logged in to the Store. If you had another older version, activate it as well.

Then, if you see a Download button at the upper right, click on it. Download and Install everything to find out what you have. Some elements do a download and install, others just download and you have to make a second pass to install them individually.

Purchasing Plus or Premium gives you credits for features, presets, instruments and Soundpools which you should use only after activating MMM2020 using your old version.

Hi

😮 My apologies I thought I was still in the MEP forum and misread the program , however the same applies for Music Maker.

I have MMM 2015 and 2016 Live still installed and fully working, MMM 17 still partially works, most obvious issue is the Instrument editor does not open by default on adding to track.

Thank you all for enlightening me.

I ended up purchasing 2020 premium new product (not upgrade) and installing it on another computer than the one I use 2014/2015. Didn't want to risk anything changing in the old programs.

Again thank you all.

@David-LaCombe

Nothing would change in the older programs. I still have MMM2016 and no problems.

On your new install, make sure that you activate with the code for 2015 first, as I told you. Otherwise, you may end up using coupons for things that you already have.

Lastly, you should have taken the Upgrade, not new. The only difference is in the price. Since you had MMM2015, you were eligible for the Upgrade price.

@David-LaCombe

Please remember these are user to user forums, not any contact for Magix support. If you want to ask Support for help, please start here and go carefully through each subsequent page, always choosing the option to Ask Support. However, it is possible that they will not be able to help due to the age of the product, sorry.

I see you ask about MM2015. Have you tried the same process, with the same audio files in the later version? With what success?
