Use of Camera/Zoom Shot causes errors and crashes at export

Hi

. . . . Camera/Zoom Shot function exports will fail or record a black screen . . . .

The most common causes of this, is the Intel HD 630 GPU and GTX 1050 drivers not being up to date and incorrect settings in Movie Edit Pro 2022.

Update your GPU drivers to the latest versions if they are not already so - I see the GTX 1050 is up to date. for the HD 630 the latest is 30.0.101.1994

In the program settings Device options tab for the Import, Processing and Export options set all three to the GTX 1050 if not already done so.

If this does not work set them one by one to the HD 630 iGPU if available - is this a laptop?

If none of the above work try all options to CPU and post a MediaInfo analysis of the video clip that is causing the issue - you can download and install MediaInfo from here, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

Thanks for the response John. I tried to update the internal HD 630 iGPU graphics card, but it said my driver was up to date and the latest available. This is a laptop. I downloaded MediaInfo and will try to re-create what is happening.

Just tried again and it is consistent, each time the Zoom function is used it turns to a black screen. Export was set to the GTX 1050. The link to the MediaInfo tutorial did not work.

Hi.

I don't know why but I have very recently had a similar problem with the size position rotation tool but only when exporting at 4K. I found one workaround that worked for me. Try changing importing to CPU but leave the other two on the nvidia card. It's a long shot the two incidents are connected but give it a try. That change has also sped up my export renders. Really odd as I'm not aware of any recent updates to either drivers of operating system. It's only happened in the last couple of days and not with every instance.

Glad it worked for you as I only suffered this yesterday with one instance I could not clear from a project.

If you could tag it as a solution as I think we may find others with similar problems soon if this is more widespread than I think and is due to the Windows update but t present I can't see how.

In my instance there were no titles in the section where my first of the two clips blanked out prior to the two clips merging. It lost frames about one and a half seconds before the crossover between the two clips.

I can repeat the problem at will on the same two clips by going back to using only the nvidia card for all the processing tasks but I'm now losing more than one and a half seconds.

Hi, I haven't noticed any problems, i'll keep my eyes open but just for the record..

two 4k AVC clips on the timeline, total time 1min, fade in on the first, crossfade between them, then a fade out at the end, both clips with a zoom mid way,

export with the three settings at Nvidia 15secs

changing import to CPU increased export time to 20secs,

I have AMD CPU & Nvidia GPU tho.

Hi Gid.

I think this is only going to effect those of us with lower end and older specification graphics cards working at higher resolutions.

This change has really increased the efficiency of my machines processing capabilities all round so far but I suspect the better the system the less improvement, if any, you will find.

@CubeAce Yeah greed, if you have a lower end or older graphics card switching to Intel CPU makes sense, i have no onboard graphics so switching just made it worse, bit hard for me to join in with some of these but just thought i'd throw my pennies worth in the ring 😉

Hi Gid.

That switching is just making the program use the CPU to calculate some of the rendering that the nvidia card should be doing which would normally be slower than letting a graphics card do the job but I doubt if your CPU has more processing power than your graphics card or that sharing the workload would reduce the amount of work your GPU is handling allowing it to share processing. Even with your multi-core Ryzen, I doubt it is faster at those tasks than your GPU or that your nvidia card is close to being used at full capacity which mine is. Allowing the CPU to take over the importing of video and audio clips has reduced the workload on my nvidia card and now running somewhat more smoothly. However I do have the habit of pressing the system to do more on each new project. I've lost count of the amount of object tracking I've done in the latest one to blank out all the schoolkids faces where they are in focus in the video as the place I went to had coach loads of children running around. That alone has taken me three days so far. This is where I think Vegas Pro Edit may have made the job easier except I'm sure that would require even more processing power. Still I thought I would have finished the video by now but I think I still have about another eight hours work on it to do.

Not really loving it Gid. 🤣, yes manual tracking. It's actually a distraction to the eye and not ideal but I can't think of another way around the problem.

A short example.

A lot less strain on my nvidia card but much more processing from my CPU.

Using a feathered edge mask would be better.

@CubeAce yeah manual tracking is a pain, the main reason i went to Vegas was so i could track my no' plate with Mocha Pro/BCC Continuum, but in MEP i prefer to blur a duplicate track & set Alpha on the B/W mask that's in-between

I'd now use BCC Blur with in-built Mocha 😁👍🤸‍♂️

They are feathered but it's the blur and transparency I'm having trouble with.The mask is HD proportions but didn't give it the _alpha designation. It's a bit late now to rename the png file.

However I have a cunning plan ready for when all the basic work is done which hopefully will make the whole lot look a lot better and less obvious. 🤞🙏👍🏻

The project is getting quite bloated now. The first image is just the short portion I put up earlier along with the tracking points for one object.The last image is the amount of plain text objects in that section showing above in the timeline.

I guess that the mask is black/white and what you are getting is the mask not covering everything it should as you resize it. The mask needs to be black or white circle/oval on a transparent background, then it works correctly irrespective of the amount of resizing.

The _alpha in the file name no longer auto applies the Alpha effect. in VPX 14, and 13, IIRC, and MEP/MMS 2022.

In addition the Attach to picture position effect, which would have been useful, is still bugged in VPX 13 and 14, MEP/MMS 2022.

IIRC correctly this is a special case usage for mapping the mask automatically to the changing shape of the plate as you move around it. This is what MEP/MMS/VPX and Vegas lack - does the plugin not work with MEP/MMS/VPX?

No it is a png file, white with a transparent background. I have another method in mind which if works I will share later. It may be some time before that happens as I am still adding informational texts at present as I go along and still have additional images to add as well.

@CubeAce Are you adding an effect (blur) then using the 3 little dots Load Effects Mask? I can only add 1 mask at a time like that, if try to unlink the mask on the timeline then Load Effects Mask again it overrides the orig one, how have you added more than one?

@johnebaker A lot of the Boris effects work on the basic settings, but any of the extras like Mocha don't work,

Here the Continuum blur works but Mocha mask doesn't 😢

A Sapphire blur works, & Mocha sort of opens & works but no picture to work on
